The claimed 0-60 is 5.7... So 6 seconds is to be expected. Not sure why OP would think it would be low 5s

Trust me it works! I have a 2015 228i x-drive and I use it all the time.

So here is how it works:
1) you need to drive at least 6 miles before launch can be activated
2) car must be in sport+ mode and the shifter must be moved to the left in sport mode. DO NOT put it in M1.. you want the dash to show S1 i think, not M1.
3) Hold the break all the way down as hard as you can after engine has been warmed up and at the same time place the gas to the floor
4) hold the break and gas for up to 3 seconds,
....Then roar away!!
It definitely doesn't have to be 6 miles. Just long enough to be warmed up. I used launch control today after driving for 2 miles. The most important thing when using it is pushing the gas all the way to the floor and feeling the, "click". as soon as it clicks the checkered flag comes up in the bottom right corner saying, "launch control activated".

Reading is fundamental...

What I said was "...I was hoping for a sub 6 second ride..."

Someone else commented about getting into the Mid-low 5's with better tires and a tune.

I find it pretty hard to believe you cant break loose a set of shitty AS tires with a 240 HP 2wd car...

GSR tune will put you in the 5s I have little doubt. Guessing RaceChip, Enzo, etc will as well. Good tunes make a world of difference. My 'play car' had 260hp stock and couldn't fry the tires if it's life depended on it. Post tune, it was a matter of how much rubber I wanted to waste and smoke to create ..even on steamroller 285/40s....

Remember claimed with bmw is always quite conservative. So if done right he should indeed be lower than 5.7

Launch control worked like a champ. Just filled up the tank and on the way home I thought I'd figure this thing out or die trying! Not sure what I've been doing wrong, but this time I "mashed" the gas and the little flag came up...dropped the hammer and she pulled really nice. Have no idea what the time was but it was much stronger then my other pulls. Hell of a time to forget my phone.

Thanks everyone, a smile is on my face!

Glad you figured it out.. nothing worse then being disappointed with a $50K purchase... but I think you are going to discover how wonderful it can be now! Enjoy

Because by holding the brake, you launched the car closer to the peak torque in the RPM range rather than waiting for the car to build boost while accelerating.

The only time accelerating from a standstill without launching is on cars with so much torque that brake-torquing would simply smoke the tires.

That's not even close to enough time to let the engine warm up. The golden rule is to always keep it under 3-3.5k until the oil is warmed up. I know that's hard to do without an oil temp gauge, but still.

With temps in the 90's and stop and go traffic, I'm sure the engine is up to temp, but I know what you are saying. I know it's more than 1 mile from my house, but I was making a point that I don't drive 6 miles prior to launching...
