That's why I'm not sure how legit this is. I ordered a 2016 228i in manual despite it being missing from the configurator, so if they mean this year they are definitely wrong.

Looks like the article was taken down. The ordering guides for both the F30 and F22 have a manual option listed.

The 2016 BMW Build Your Own feature has been pretty disappointing. I wish it would go back to giving you more customize-able options, including adding M Performance Parts. We know the BMW group can make a good Build Your Own, because the 2015 one, at least for the F30 wasn't bad, and the Mini USA website has always let you pretty much fully customize a car.

I added a slash to the url and now it works. Either way I think they just looked at the configurator and made assumptions.

The BMWUSA configurator still offers the MT option. There has been some confusion since the 2016 order guide was originally published. It included 2 different versions of the 228i model: one with the N20 engine and one with the N26 engine. One of these models is 100% AT, and the other is 100% MT, according to the order guide.
