Car does not know CD title

Got a 2Cellos CD for Xmas. (I have no real idea why.) The car doesn’t know what it is.Plays it as Untitled album and artist, tunes are Title1, Title2.

What is to be done about this? Must I get a new car?

Perhaps if you patiently explained to the car why you like cello music it will learn more about it? I didn't know what a cello was before the first time I heard one either.

Only the 7-series support cello music

Perhaps BMW uses an online database (CDDB) to retrieve this information, and your CD is not present in that database.

It's probably the only known copy of that CD in existence so nobody knows what it is.

Likely the CD does not contain Title/artist and track info, so it will not be shown.

Buying a new car isn't likely to help this situation, although we'd all be interested to see you pursue that option to it's conclusion (for entertainment purposes only of course).

...now I'm curious to know if the CD slot in my car actually functions at all. Someone send me a cello CD so I can test it!

(when I get my car back because an unlicensed, uninsured illegal messed my car up a couple weeks ago)

Ha, I have a 50 Cent CD that does this. Maybe Fiddy and 2Cellos are just too raw for BMW to understand.

Not sure a fifty cent cd inside a ninety-nine cent wrapper will work any better. What difference is the package? Quality, people, quality!!

This happened with an Adele CD years ago. Pop it in another car and most likely that one won't read it either. It's the individual CD that is faulty, not the car.

This is correct. Physical CDs have no track data information other than a numerical track number and length. Track names are queried from the Gracenote database. BMW cars have a subset of the Gracenote database in each unit which gets updated periodically. Not all CDs are in this subset, so some CDs won't display track data. Newer units can get this info over the cars hot spot. (I used to work at Gracenote )

The newer cds do actually because the player I have at home will display the titles. Not on earlier 80s and 90s cds though.
