because the 6 series wasn't big enough? I understand that folks might be getting bigger but from what I see the roads, parking spaces, and garages aren't really growing...

I like your thinking and tend to agree.

Love my 6gc and will be gutted if no new model following the current F series occurs. They can't make the 6 any bigger it is already over 5 metres long. If they want to release an even bigger barge make it an 8 and leave the gc the same size or a bit shorter.

Yeah, linking the 6GC to the 2 door models also caused the price to be way higher than its direct competitors such as the CLS and A7. Moving the 2 door models further upmarket would allow a hypothetical 6 series badged mid-size GC/sedan to compete more directly with the CLS and A7 while the 8 series coupe and convertible go head to head with the best GT's that the world has to offer.

This way, customers of the 2 door model also don't have to worry about the streets being flooded with 'practical' 4 door variants taking away the exclusivity that comes with owning a true luxury coupe.

Looks like the prototype has the Active Air Stream Kidney Grille like the new 7- and 5-Series.
The grille slats are closed in the winter testing shots, open in the Nurburgring shots.

I'd rather have an R8. Haven't seen anything inspiring out of BMW since they killed the E9xM3. File this in the ever growing bin of BMW consumerist trash.

They need to bring back the Z8 and make that a 911 competitor. Offer coupe and vert versions. Maybe even Targa. I-6 TT with that and you got yourself a solid 911 competitor at hopefully reasonable prices (not $89k starting price for a base 911 non-S...)

Looking and sounding good. I would never purchase a Luxo-barge but understand why they are making it. If you want a 911 competitor the M2 is the closest you'll get on dimensions and weight.
