The gas mileage is the same assuming you have the manual which most on here do......so that wouldn't be a reason. Both 28MPG highway.....just like the 328 and 335 (previous model generation).

The problem with "loving" all the performance cars out there is that it sets zero expectations for the manufacturer. The current focus on MPG and the rampent horsepower war is responsible for the decimation of the drivers car. In the name of tiny MPG gains and protecting the driver from the massive engine, driving feel and mechanical connection has been insulated out. Now it is all electronic power steering and computerized AWD traction control on cars like the GTR to turn a good lap time on the Nordschleife. Those of us who want to connect with the car have little to no options in the future of motoring, and it is aggravating to say the least. I will never buy a car with a sunroof or an automatic transmission. Just at a base level, those are absolute requirements.

Probably. But where did I say that the N52 was the best engine ever or that the 128i was the best driver's car?

Srsly though, the success of the BRZ/FRS seems to be a good sign for enthusiasts. I'm optimistic.

^^ My next car purchase will more than likely be a 2012 BRZ in a few years when the STI comes out, and the original NA motor prices drop like stones.

How are you finding it compared to the FR-S? I love the power in my 135i, but a sub-3000 lb curb weight sure does change things up a bit.

I had a BRZ for a bit. It certainly is a good sign for enthusiasts, but isn't a good option for someone who is used to German cars. If you were upgrading from a Civic you would think it was amazing.

and Light weight 17s with non run flat tires gets the curb weight to <3100 lbs (no sunroof, manual coupe). ...Without the econobox materials, lack of sound deadening, or lack of power of the BRZ. Best of both worlds. IMO, anyway.

Im not saying dont expect what you want. Im saying that we need to treat eachother like were at meets. "Ohh your car is pretty cool heres mine, its also cool" These debate threads are just getting tired. A 128 with few options is good for you, a 135 is good for me. Its pretty clear that we both really like our cars. So lets focus on that. I dont like R35 GTRs and I think that I enjoy my car more than I would an R35. Does that mean that I have a right to tell GTR owners that they made the wrong choice? No it doesnt. Thats just an example, but I hope it makes it clear what im trying to say. |

The current GTR is the epitome of everything that is wrong with modern sports cars-- my second least favorite car on sale today, after the Prius.

Why is it that a one in 500 Ferrari needs provisions for a toddler's car seat in the USA? Dont get me started on electric steering. I live with it everytime I drive the E. Ill say its very precise, but you get nothing back from it. The first time I got in a car and drove my father said, "You feel those little vibrations and forces in the wheel? Those are very important, it called steering feedback and it lets you know what the front wheels are doing, where theyre pointed, and how much grip they have." I feel like im lacking information when I drive with electric steering. And I dont even understand why we lose it, its just a different method of boosting the steering. |

Yup. Had a fun space race with another player that ended with a Mun round trip. I am a little tired of it today because of all the waiting around for longer distance flights.

I didn't find the BRZ EPS to be particularly good either. The odd part is that cars like the NSX and S2000 which are renowned for feedback had it, so in theory it is possible. The worst is when they add artificial weight to simulate feedback. |

EPS has the potential to be far better than hydraulically boosted steering assist.
Hydraulic systems use a pressure differential valve and a hydraulic ram to assist in steering. The pressure differential valve is calibrated to match input torque (how hard you twist the steering wheel) with assist, courtesy of pressurized hydraulic fluid fed to a ram. You can vary the assist by varying the pressure in the system, but the whole thing is more or less locked in to a set of parameters established by the mechanical design of the system. Not to mention, all hydraulic systems have a large amount of parasitic drag. Moving the hydraulic ram requires additional effort above and beyond the effort required to turn the wheels. An electronic system drives the steering components directly, and has far less parasitic drag when it's not offering assistance. In theory, you could turn off EPS through software, and you'd have manual steering with less additional effort than what would be required by disabling a hydraulic system. This means that EPS offers a much greater range of assist, and should (in theory) result in better overall steering feel. The problem with current EPS systems is in the software. The upside is that software can be changed. I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen more software tuning for EPS "tuning", much like we do ECU tuning. The system has the potential to far exceed hydraulic systems, but we're stuck waiting on the software engineers to figure it out, and the execs to approve more aggressive tuning.
