Test Drove An F82 M3, Fell In Love with my M235i even more!
Title says it all !!
I don't know if some of you can relate to this but i test drove a Brand new M3 fully Loaded, DCT, Titanium Exhaust and it just did not have that Wow factor, it felt big , not nimble , even the raw acceleration was not that exciting tbh . is it the Size ?? now i understand all the reviews that praised the 2 Series and the guys who prefer their modded 2er than the bigger M's. i have no other Choice but to Stick to my M235i . honestly my dream is Crushed , i wanted so much to fall in love with the Bigger Brother. i don't think its because of the fact my car is manual . Thank you . |

I had the same thoughts when I first started working at bmw. While the m3/m4 is a great car, it felt too serious for me. It didn't just have that playfulness I expected when compared to a 2 series.

I had a somewhat similar experience as I was seriously considering an m4. Took it out on and was pretty impressed, but it felt really big. Then on a whim they had a m235i and immediately loved the size and feel...so I ended up going with that! Can't go wrong either way but I think the smaller coupe just feels right for this type of car. I remember driving the m4 and feeling like it was closer to an m6, had that large cruiser feel when not really getting on it.

Would love to agree with your post, but driving a 15 M3 the day before I bought my 14 235i it was really a different animal.
The M3 double clutch, steering feel, and flat out stupid fast straight line acceleration was above and beyond what the 235 can offer but I do agree the car felt and drove a little larger than it looks. Now was it double the fun of the m235? Absolutely not, which is why I paid half the price for a lot of the same thrills, didn't really need an extra set of doors anyway. |

Test drove the M235i about a year ago hoping to love it. Ended up ordering an M4.
I think it's a good chance that the transmission is a factor. As good as the DCT is, i wouldn't have got the M4 or the M235i without the manual. Agree with the last post. I like it so much more than the M235i, but unless you spend loads of time on the track, it's not $15k better than the 2. |

But doesn't the M4 feel that much quicker than the M235i? Just curious.

im sure in a Roll race it will smoke the M235i but the behind the Scene sensation is somehow diminished by the size of the thing, the M235i feels that much urgent cause it's nimble . imo right now the best BMW out there is the M2, i had an epiphany today and a great disappointment

haven't gotten behind the wheel of the newer Ms but I got this feeling with new mustang GT which is similar league. It felt enormous, harder to maneuver and overall not as fast as I was expecting. Then there was the interior space - LOL!!

Better yet, the new Camaro is super capable but even heavier (lighter, however than last gen). |

Had a similar takeaway with the 235 vs 435. 4 series was bigger, smoother and better for an every day driver. But the 2 offered the nimble chassis and plenty of power which combined is hard to beat.
Great car for me, I have no complaints. I bought it as a second "fun" car. I don't feel it's that far off in terms of performance even from the M2. Definitely best value/hp for a RWD German. Easily mod'able and lot's of room to grow. D

i had a chance to track the M3, and M5. The M3 definitely opens up from 4,000-7,000 rpms, i hit 130 mph on the track, its quite a blast on the track. DCT shifts are pretty fast
