Hmm, no. I think that the 2 series is just pretty clearly an inferior design.

A speedo should make it easy to see your exact speed at any given moment. This one doesn't do that.

Kind of surprising from zee Germans.

Yes, digital speedos really are the way to go. I loved the one on my RX-8.

why most cars in the states have both MPH and KPH on the speedos?

Its essential to have a digital readout and have a big rpm.

Also some of these ford and gm shit boxes have 160mph speedos on a 180hp car, is there a need for that

The German speedometers are known to be off by about 7 percent. They intentionally overstate the speed so they can't be held responsible for someone's speeding. I found several free I phone apps that use GPS to give true speed. Use one a couple times and you'll know how far off your speedo is.

Speedo is also off because of varying wheel diameter with tire wear.

Anyway, I like the BMW Speedo, it is clean and easy to read. The Ford thing is busy and hard to glance over with too many numbers of differing fonts, lots of brain power spent on deciphering all these useless details.

I think it's a litt harder to read than some of the speedos I have had in other BMWs - but I have gotten used to it pretty quickly.

What is this about coding in the digital speedo ???

I believe it's in case you want to drive your car in Canada, where the speeds are measure in KPH.

You can code it to remove the correction....to display real speed

Good God, where have you been? Speedos in the US have had mph/kph since when, the early 80's?

Dates back to the late 70s/early 80s when the powers that be decided America should try to go to the metric system. Notice many baseball stadiums outfield walls are marked in feet and meters, too? Another failed experiment. Most of the world is metric--we're the oddballs...

I'm very happy. Maybe even delusional because there don't appear to be many happy owners on this forum. Everyone seems to have some sort of gripe...didn't anyone research/test drive before buying??? Or did I get the only good one?

Yup! We are 1 of 3 countries left in the world that refuse to adopt SI. I guess we have something in common with Burma and Liberia for some reason.
Imagine how easier and better things would be for us if we did. (kids math grades, build/mfg quality, 1-set of tools in the garage, a speedo with only 1-set of markings...)

There are already 2 threads of dislikes defects nitpicks etc. The more we look for them or read about them, the more faults we tend to notice in our own cars. Don't look too hard for perfection and just drive it hard. It is after all an assembly of parts designed and built to meet most requirements and not all requirements. Enjoy it!

Personally I like the clean look without the clutter of so many numbers. For me it is not difficult to estimate the speed with a quick glance. I have the digital speedo coded and as far as I know it shows actual speed, slightly different from the speedo (at least it was on my e90).

You're saying there's a way to code it so the analog speedometer shows actual speed instead of the default inflated speed? If so, I want.

when i had an A4, i could just leave the little LCD in between the tach and speedo on the digital speedo mode.

I wish BMW had that on the little info LCD as an option. its one thing i miss about my audi (everything else i'd say was worse... haha)

ya the code does

"BC calculation with the speedometer curve - correction for analog / Head up display speed - disabling those corrections , you will be able to see the real speed. "

The M235i cluster is rather disappointing for a luxury car.

I agree with OP that the tick marks are not so useful in the U.S.

However, the digital speedo coding helps A LOT. I have the same problem that I cannot see the top of my speedo because of the steering wheel.

That being said, I am not a fan of the digital gauges that most car manufacturers are aiming towards (probably BMW eventually too)

Something about the lighting and authenticity of the BMW clusters are awesome to me. I don't mind and info screen, but some manufacturers are going completely digital and it seems a bit tacky.
