2 Series Sales/Allocation
Anybody notice the sales posted in the other thread, 2 series only up 2.8% ytd and 4.8% for the month compared to the 1 series. My dealer got an allocation of 15 total 2 series for the year. They submitted 12 228 and 3 M235 but were able to change it later to 8 M235 and 5 228. They have not had an M235 in stock since the one they got in Feb and all others have been sold by orders. I'm still trying to figure out why BMW would launch this series and not forecast a larger increase and higher production especially since these numbers are compared to the last year of the 1 series. This has to be a capacity issue at the factory and they need to limit the 2 series sales. Our M235 look to be pretty rare in the overall market since at this pace they will only build maybe 6,000 2 series for the US this year.

I wonder the same thing about over-all-volume.
But I think in total BMW need not to make large volume of a body style to recoup development cost. The three series being their volume car and the Mini catering to a lower price point - with that in mind the two series (particularly the M235) can be a niche vehicle offering excellent profit for dealers, cater to enthusiast and garner positive press for an overall 'Win' for corporate BMW. |

I like the idea of small production on the m235i...more rare

The 2 series is built in the same plant as the i3. Maybe since the introduction of the i Series, they had to pull away resources from the 1/2 Series. Plus they said that i3 orders were up. Personally, I've seen more i3s in southern California now than I've seen the 2 series.

I've only seen one 2 series this entire year and it was on a rack getting an oil change. Definitely a production issue but the dealer did tell me he could sell a lot more M235's if he had them, not so much 228. I think the 2 series convertible will be a big seller because the 4 got too big and expensive and you can't get a manual in the 4 series convertible. I actually would have bought a 2 convertible if it had been available but I love my M235.

Every 228 that shows up on lots here in Charlotte are gone in no time. They never have more than a few at a time. I check the dealer sites almost weekly. The 228i are different almost weekly. They have a moonlight silver that has been there a little while longer but that is not a popular color. I would say at least 2-3 dozen have been sold here since they hit the lots.

My dealer up in Portland has always been sold out of their allocation for m235i, and is still sold out for months. Luckily I'm in no rush to get the car, but it is crazy to me that BMW hasn't made more cars available. Definitely leaving some sales on the table.

I just picked up my m235i from BMW of Portland today and they told me they have no more allocations for the remainder of the year for m235i's. They mentioned something about the plant that it's manufactured in, so I think the previous post about it being made in the same facility as the i3 is probably spot on.

You still waiting on your M235? BMW of Columbia told me they got a yearly allotment so like someone else said when it's used up that's it.

Yea the boat just ported in Charleston last night. My PCD is the 21st so still have to wait till then. When I did my deal in April they had just used their last allocation for April so I had to wait till May 2nd for my deal to be acknowledged by BMW.....that was when May allocation was released.
So I was told.....been a long agonizing wait |

I did an autotrader search nationwide for the M235 and it showed total of 81 available new and used. None within 100 miles of me, which means on M235is in South Florida.

Wow, didn't realize how lucky I was to stumble upon a 2014 M235i by chance. There was only one at BMW of Dallas - black sapphire metallic, CF mirror caps / interior. It was built ideally for me, option-wise, except it didn't have the M performance exhaust.
Bad luck, though... while test driving it, something hit the hood (three of us in the car, and none of us knew what it was - hail? balled up plastic?) and dented it. I was hesitant to purchase the car dented, but the salesman said they would fix it with PDR. So I went ahead and bought it... However, when it came back "fixed," it was clear where the dent was. Upon opening and closing the front hood, the dent re-appeared. The fortunate part is that I was in the three-day window to return the car, which is exactly what I did... and ordered a 2015 to pretty much the exact same specifications (with the M performance exhaust!) |
