Anxiously awaiting your continued report on this. I still haven't found the time to install the BimmerTech amp and ASD bypass harness I received over a month ago, and now this has me worried...

I just got my car back today. I'll start a new post and put details up tomorrow, but the nickel summary:
  • The ECU could not be reprogreammed while the Bimmertech amp was connected in place of the stock amp.
  • I reinstalled the stock amp, but forgot to pull the ASD harness. The ECU took the reprogramming, but they started getting fails on the parking sensors.
  • They removed the ASD harness, reprogrammed the car again, and the parking sensors behaved normally. However, that may or may not have been related to the harness and may only be a function of the option set I have in my car.
  • I now have my car back with both the Bimmertech amp and the ASD harness back in place, and everything is operating normally.
Still organizing my thoughts on this. I'll post more, likely in a new thread tomorrow.

EDIT: Details thread here: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1260271

I hope they didn't try to say that you voided any warranties or something. :/

Could it be the parking sensor issue was related to your previous fault and it took a couple of flashes to correct? Seems odd that, of all things, the ASD bypass would be related to a PDC issue.

Yeah, the harness is intended to be invisible to the computers, with the ASD module still being on the network and communicating. All the harness does is bypass the audio connections so that you don't hear what the ASD module is (still) generating. Unless the harness wasn't fitted correctly, I don't see how it could cause an error.

Nope, they were real good about it. Only charge I had was for $35 for the state inspection. I have a very good relationship with them - 6 years taking my old car there, for both warranty and assorted not-covered-services.

I had a short (30 second) parking sensor fault about a month ago. I think it's more related to that than anything else.

I think it's more "Anything else non-stock?" than a real issue with the harness. The first pass on the cause was "your radar detector is wired into the mirror", which went away when I told them they could chase the wire back and find it went to the lighter circuit and not the mirror. The amp was absolutely causing the first non-flash issue, though - the flash was failing with error messages about the amp not responding.

So glad I saw this thread!

Zooks - you are the man.

And I did see in another forum that an ECU flash did wipe out coding. I can't recall where I saw it - it was another forum/model & why I decided not to do any coding. I know it can be redone, but I don't want to be bothered.

Glad I kept my OEM amp & like you, have destroying the trunk down to a science now. LOL I even made it easy for me to pull the amp & DQDX out.

Jim
