Need help with CEL

I have a 2015 M235i. Dinan stage 2 tune, VRSF high flow catted downpipe, VRSF charge pipes, VRSF upgraded intercooler, 1 degree colder NGK spark plugs, and upgraded coils. I have a CEL on due to the downpipe. Are there any options to get the CEL off to pass emissions, short of putting the stock downpipe back on? Thanks in advance.

One option you could try is to put a 90 degree O2 sensor spacer in. I did that on my VRSF catless downpipe, on the sensor furthest away from the turbo and it prevented the CEL for the most part.

Does that mess with the air / fuel ratio at all?

I had zero issues with the A/F ratio but my downpipe was catless. I don't think it would mess with anything with a highflow catted DP but not 100% certain. Someone else that knows more about the catted DP's would have to answer.

Gotcha, thanks. Did you use just a generic extension? Or one of the catted ones?

I bought a generic one off of Ebay for about 10 bucks. Here is a pic of the setup.

How long have you had it on? Still throwing a CEL at all?

It was on my previous car for about 2 years. I threw a CEL maybe 6 times over the course of those 2 years. It was a random thing every few months. Guessing if I didn't have that spacer it would have thrown a CEL all the time.

Another option is buy a highflow catted DP where the manufacturer guarantees no CEL. I can't recall which brands but there are some out there.

Yeah the autowerkes one. I was trying not to pay 1400 for that one and salvage the VRSF haha. Appreciate the info!

I have the same issue, but you can pass….

In IL, they only connect to the OBDII port, no sniffer. If you have a sniff test, I don’t think you can do much.

IL allows you to pass if two of the monitors they check for are in “not ready” status. What you can do is clear the CEL with a scan tool. Continue using that scan tool to check the monitors as after driving they will start to get in to “ready” status. I am assuming your state is similar regarding allowing some monitors to be in the “not ready” status, especially since IL allows. Keep scanning every day and wait until you see what you need, then swing in to the emissions place and WA-LAHH!

Worked for me when I last went to emissions. I get an intermittent CEL. Will be off for a few months, pop back on…. Clear…. Come on again…. Off a few months, etc.

Goodluck, let me know if you have questions.

Thanks, I live in Missouri - I believe the emissions are the same as what you're talking about.
