I use TomTom mapping app as well when in other country's on my iPhone and iPad or on my motorbike at home. I've had no problems with Apples GPS on any device no matter where I have been on legal roads. I never use data mapping while driving at home just BMW mapping now.

What I found with heads up it takes your eyes off the road ahead as your eyes cannot focus on two things at once. I ended up turning heads up off as it was distracting and I thought dangerous.

If the HUD is causing you a problem going head down & refocusing to see the dash board display must be the equivalent of armageddon.
