Headrest Issue

After dutifully getting my M235i through its break-in mileage, I took it autocrossing and at the first event discovered that the headrest pushed my head forward and down when wearing a helmet. For the second event I took the headrest off and turned it around and that is where the issue arose. The headrest only goes down to the first notch in the posts, and now it won't come back out. I have even tried levering it up with a piece of lumber while pushing in the release but no resultant movement of the headrest. Any suggestions?

No bueno.

Try rocking it back and forth while another person helps with the release bottom.

It looks like the plastic seat back is easily removable to look in and see what is going on.

The Audi TT had a similar issue, but there was a special place on the seat back you could push to release.
