This confirms I made the right decision by not getting the tech package ... too many things to worry about I floor it and believe that it must be hitting 320 hp, smile and get on with life

Thanks for the detailed feedback gang! Doc Indy has now had a chance to drive the beast a bit longer and am finally getting some better hp ratings. I can get her up to 250hp and yes even 300hp but u really have to floor it and be prepared to shift gears to keep the rev range within say 4-5K rpm. It seems this car does indeed develop most of its power w/o redlining it, and c/b due in part to its dual-scroll single turbo. Anyhooo, I haven't been able to breech the 300hp mark yet, but no doubt its possible, but u need at least 200 ft of open space to do so. Just goes to show that the 228i is probably more than enough power for most of us, and yet we all opt for the M235i anyway cause we love that extra potential on tap.

What the car PROBABLY does is use throttle position and rpm with a lookup table to estimate torque and as such calculate horsepower. To populate this table they would have put the engine on a dyno and rev'd it up at different throttle settings. Source: BEng, Mechanical Engineering A buddy of mine actually designed a small dyno for a class project. Was a much bigger problem to measure torque than you would think. Tildr: Sport Display is a really cool gimmick to show off to your buddies. http://www.howstuffworks.com/horsepower1.htm |

I use the Sports Display almost constantly and it works great. I saw 330 ft/lbs just this morning.

Have we fallen this far as a civilization?
Yes, to make the car go as fast as possibly you really have to "Floor it". Flooring is not a metaphor for "push real hard", flooring means push the pedal literally as far down as it will go with all of your might. And yes, when you're flooring your car you should have more than 200 ft of space. Please don't try this in your garage. (Or do, and then post the results on Youtube)

LOL... OK bozo finally figured out how to get the max 320 ponies by opening up the throttle (flooring it) in full auto... haven't managed it yet in full manual. Hurrah! Interesting comment about measuring torque too. My next goal is to reach 450 hp once I install the Mad Max intercooler, which will be in another lifetime
