Moonroof auto-open amount
Anyone notice that the moonroof only opens about 80% of the way when you engage auto-open? You have to hit auto-open twice in order for it to open all the way.
Can't think of a reason why it does that... |

Yep, My RAV4 did this as well. It is to prevent wind buffeting. If you opened the one in my RAV4 all the way it sounded like a helicopter taking off in there.

It would be dumb if the window down button stopped at 80% down. Why do it on the sunroof? |

This semantic discussion has gone on for years. At my prior employer (car company) moonroof=glass panel; sunroof=steel panel. By that definition, most today are "moonroof".

So at lunch today I noticed that in the first stopped position, the handle for the screen remains visible and reachable. In the full-open position, the sunscreen slides completely into the roof.
Can that really be the reason? So that you can reach and slide the screen without closing the moonroof the whole way? |

BMW calls it "Glass sunroof, powered" From the manual: Comfort position Stops the roof in the comfort position if the roof is not fully open. This reduces wind noise in the passenger compartment. If desired, continue the movement by pressing the switch. |

This never occurred to me before since I assumed windows / roof were on motors that were "dumb" but since the roof stops at 80%, would it be possible to code a preset windows down 25% roof open 50% or something similar? Usually when I have the roof open I crack the windows and do more or less the same thing every time.
My convertible has a button to auto down / up all windows even that would be great

Tested it out on the way home from work yesterday. From the driver's position at least, I can't notice an appreciable difference in wind noise and buffeting between the 80% and 100% open positions. Reaching back to put my hand just under the headliner and behind the "glass sunroof, powered," I can *maybe* feel slightly more wind in the fully open position.
