Squirmy ride after new rear tires
I just replaced my MPSS rear tires with a fresh pair since they were down to the wear bars. I didn't replace the fronts since they still had about 6/10 inch tread left.
I've noticed that the car is pretty squirmy on the highway and I'm constantly putting in minor steering corrections to keep the car pointed straight. I've replace rears only on other cars (like my old 135i) and don't remember having this issue. Has anyone else experienced the same result when replacing the rear tires only?

Unlikely, but it is possible to get a tire that is bad and pulls, or otherwise has issues (or if a wheel were bent, but that's unlikely to coincide w/ new tires). First up would be bring it back to the shop for an alignment check and diagnostics. I don't think those tires would be different enough in size to trigger TCS or it would be a common complaint.

Also, new tires have a lot more thread, that is taller, and may feel squirmy compared to your old ones. Check tires pressures front and rear to make sure they are what they need to be. Otherwise, it's probably just the new tires with more thread.

While it may be new tires and that's it I'd still get them checked at tire installer or dealer. Lot easier to get them replaced if needed if they're new-ish vs 1000 miles on them.

Yes, that waxy coating definately makes the chassis skittish. It's weird because I almost think it more perceptible when putting power down then with cornering and front slip.

I checked the air pressures after I first noticed them dancing and they were within spec (34F/38R). It's gotten a little better over the last couple days and I even dropped the rears by 2 psi last night to hopefully help with the tramlining. I'm going to give them another couple hundred miles and see if it subsides. I'm thinking it might just be the "glossy" finish on the new tread.

Oh, and I got the torque wrench out too and made sure they were tightened properly.
