Barf + Vader Build Log - Dyno Results
Hello everybody!
I remember when i first joined the forum, and i was looking around to figure out around how much HP my '16 228i could be putting out, but i couldn't find any dyno's with my setup. So in this thread i will post some dyno results, and as i add more and more parts ill revisit the same dyno. So to start off, in the following Dyno runs all i have is a JB4 and an MPE axle back. The dyno used was a MAHA (cant remember the exact model), which apparently is very highly regarded in europe, and is quite accurate compared to other dynos. (i am by far, no expert on Dynos, i do know the masses use Dynojet or Mustang, but i couldnt find any where i live) So on to the results: Map 0 vs Map 1 (the information below the chart refers to Map 0) As you can see the results are close to BMWs advertised performance figures 244.3BHP and 341.8Nm of Torque @ 3515rpm. Map 1 (here you can see the information regarding Map 1) This was the best of three runs, and the results are 275.3 BHP and 397.5Nm of Torque @ 3565rpm Map 2 (here you can see the information regarding Map 2) This was the best of three runs, and the results are 288.1 BHP and 416.7Nm of Torque @ 3675rpm. I was expecting Map 2 to be a bit more aggressive and maybe hit the ~300BHP mark but after 5 runs, this was the best result. This weekend i will be installing my Wagner Sport Catted Downpipe and hopefully that will give map 2 more air to breathe getting me in the 300BHP and 440-450Nm Torque range. Let me hear your thoughts etc |

You got good numbers
Couple things to keep in mind: 1- When switching maps, Jb4 will need time to adjust and give you max power 2- After all these runs, your stock intercooler was probably overwhelmed which might have caused a decrease in performance

Thanks for the feedback Mike!
1. How much time does the JB4 need to adjust? 2. I did give it a 5min break between runs to try and let it cool off. |

I should be revisiting the dyno in october (when the weather is a bit cooler - currently 35c at night here in Greece!) Unfortunately there are no drag strips in greece that i could go do some runs - and unfortunately, even with a rear 255 tyre, no street in Greece can handle a launch without spinning out until 3rd gear. What kind of numbers are you looking for? in case i find some strip of private road, and its safe ill log the numbers for you. M |

What I find very interesting about the MAP 0 run is that the dyno hp (eng power is spot on, where the corrected is slightly higher) is almost identical to what the factory publishes, on this dyno. Here in the states, everyone says BMW hp numbers are understated.
This might only be based on this one specific dyno, but it seems the way the way bhp is calculated on US dynos might just be overrating the power.
