BMW to offer an M Performance power kit for M240i
I haven't seen this posted yet. I'm new to blog so let me know if this belongs somewhere different.
BMW M Performance-tuned M240i Convertible at Geneva If you want a small, performance convertible from BMW, it’s hard to look past the BMW M240i Convertible. With the same B58 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine as the Coupe, the M240i ‘Vert makes 340 hp as-standard, is available with a manual transmission and can power just the rear wheels. While small convertibles aren’t typically the first choice of enthusiasts, if top-down driving is your thing then the M240i Convertible is a great choice. And if that’s the case but you want a bit more bite to your ‘Vert, BMW has some M Performance tuning options for you, as showcased at Geneva. The specific BMW M240i Convertible shown at Geneva was wearing many M Performance parts, including 19″ 624 M Bicolor wheels, M Performance livery, carbon fiber mirror caps and black kidney grilles. But, most importantly, this specific M240i also packs the BMW M Performance Power Kit. This is BMW’s own in-house tuning kit that bumps power up to 360 hp. With the extra bump in power, the M240i Convertible can get from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds (4.7 for automatic-equipped cars). If you option xDrive all-wheel drive, that sprint drops to 4.6 seconds. So it becomes a properly quick little convertible with the looks to match. No longer is it a secretary’s car. It also has BMW’s M Performance exhaust, which makes the already great-sounding B58 engine sound even better. That I6 growl becomes intensified, making the top-down experience that much greater. If you want it to handle better, there’s an M Performance suspension kit, which lowers the car 10mm, just enough to get rid of some of the stock wheel gap and give it an imposing stance. It will also handle a bit sharper and ride a bit firmer, so as to back up its looks and sound. All of this is BMW’s way of trying to get customers to tune their cars from BMW, rather than going third-party. It allows customers who want their BMW to have just a little bit extra bite, a bit more of an edge, without looking and feeling aftermarket. In the case of the BMW M240i Convertible, it really works. Are they advertising that this tune package will make their M240 convertible slower, but with more power? I ask because if you look at BMWUSA, you'll see they have it listed at 4.4 secs to 60 for the xdrive and 4.5 secs for the RWD convertible.

I noticed that as well. What I took from this is the M Perf power kit, like the one they sell for the 340i, will also be available for m240's. Who knows where they got their 0-60 times from?? That means 360HP and potentially includes M Perf exhaust with the kit.

0-60 times always make me laugh. So many variables and false claims. When I was younger I was really into that. Out of the muscle cars I owned, my 66 GTO with tri power (3-2 barrel carbs) 360 hp was the fastest. Now my X3 could give it a run with better handling. The 240 would blow it's doors off. Balance, decent power, great looks are more important to me. It's a different ball game today so I am just happy to own such a fantastic vehicle. Oh, to be young again.

The tune doesn't sound right to me. BMW is offering the M240i for roughly $8k less than the M2. But then you could pay to get a tune on the M240i (around $2k I'm assuming) and then essentially have the same power as the M2. And I'm sure if you get all of the performance parts, the price is pretty similar to that of a base M2. So why not just get an M2 (unless you REALLY wanted a drop top and X-Drive)?

You have to remember the M2 is much more expensive in most countries outside the U.S., but your point is valid. It would be nice to have confirmation on the power pkg from additional sources.

The M2 has a LOT of things the standard 2 series does not, just to name some of the items that add cost: the body panels are even different, wheels/tires, suspension, driveline/differential, and of course the engine, and then ALL the other things that an M is that a non M is not. Total power output is NOT what an M car is about. |

Exactly, so why not get an M2? Technically it is a "better" car (depending on the intended usage-track, street, etc). So for the same price of a loaded 240i, you could get a M2! Not trying to be critical...just giving my .02 cents! Personally, I would love an M2, over an M240 because of the reasons you listed (body panels, engine, LSD, etc)! Bang for the buck!

http://www.bimmertoday.de/2017/03/15...ning/#comments "The BMW M Performance Power Kit offered for the models 340i and 440i, which is also powered by a straight-six cylinder B58, together with a power increase of 360 hp, is not officially available for M140i and M240i. This leaves it at 340 hp":

Both the M140 and M240 have consistently posted 354-358hp and 375-380TQ completely stock on multiple dyne's both in Europe and here i the U.S. Dinan's recent testing has the stock numbers even higher than this. The M240i AWD posted low 4's 0-60 (4.2) according to BMW. To hit these numbers the HP and TQ would have to be higher than what they report. These numbers make me wonder if the M240 / M140 tune is the same as the 340/440 tune. I recently took delivery of a 17' M240. I have driven the 440 w/ the M Performance kit. I can tell you that the tune feels different between these cars. I have no additional data to back this up other than what I shared in this post. From my perspective ... if the 0-60 times are accurate on the M240 / M140 ... BMW has low balled the M240 / 140 numbers quite a bit.
