In Automobilemag.com's Jan 23rd, 2018 " BMW Regoups. Again" article, it states "Let´s start this story with a look at BMW´s latest casualty list. Next year, we bid farewell to the three-door 1 Series, already a classic in its own right in manual M140i form. Also on the chopping block at the end of their current production runs are the 2 Series Gran Tourer, the 2 Series convertible, and the Mini cabriolet."

From a sales and certification standpoint, it would certainly make sense to drop the convertible from the 2 Series line up. I would guess the current 2 Series vert sells at the rate of 1-2 or 1-3 versus the coupe and the 2 Series is one of BMW's less popular vehicles, especially in the US. We have the new Z4 coming in 2019 as a ragtop only and the updated 4 Series convertible will by out in late 2020. Both of those options could easily entice folks who might have otherwise been interested in a new 2 Series convertible. I think the handwriting is one the wall regarding the next 2 Series in convertible form.

I ordered my 2017 M240i in late March last year. Two different dealers offered production dates in April and June. I picked the former and got it in mid May.

Just as a point of reference.

So based on the discussions happening right now about a potential trade war with the EU and a massive increase in the tariffs charged on imported cars, I'm thinking of ordering the m240i now and ending my lease early. I'm hoping it will get here before any new tariffs can be put into place. What do you all think?

I would not do anything based on trying to predict what DT will do with tariffs or anything else.
His MO is to try to be unpredictable and he does a pretty good job of it.

Yeah that's true. I may just wait and keep my fingers crossed these tariffs don't come to pass.

Anyone get any updates on this info? I placed order with my dealer for a 2018 back on April 7th. As of last Friday, they still haven't actually placed the order yet. Supposedly they don't have any allocations and can't find a dealer nearby willing to trade. I'm told they will get a new set of allocations at the first of the month and will order mine then. Supposedly still as a 2018. Has anyone ordered a 2019 yet or have any information on that?

Well, at least your dealer is being upfront with you about not having an allocation at the moment. When I ordered mine in mid January the dealer told me they had an allocation and turns out they didn't. It wasn't until the first week of March that they were able to trade for one. I think they were waiting to see if they would get one at the beginning of February then March and when they didn't they needed to trade for one. For some reason, 2er allocations seem to be pretty scarce.

Is this for M240i or even for 230i?
