Pretty much everything you guys mentioned, he's already done, including the roof.
I just checked it out yesterday... daaaamn, that was a major overhaul..

I'm still awaiting to see what his final updates will show on the full build that he's promised... specifically the final weigh in.

I'm not sure if he'll provide a dyno though, but he's definitely generated some buzz on that M2

Looks like $$ wasn't an issue, AT ALL, on that build, what a monster!

Bet he's wishing he waited for the M2 Competition. I guess I don't see the point in making an M2 a racecar much less trying to shed a lot of weight from a car like this.

Check out his IG (I posted his handle in that thread) as he updates that more often and with more content.

Yeah, and he has a shop. He explains early on in the thread how he's able to do what he's doing.

Yeah, that S55, though.... Still, the engine config wasn't confirmed when he started his project and it'd cost more to do what he did with the M2 Competition. I personally wouldn't start with any 2er for a project like that, but not really my money nor my time so that's irrelevant.

Yesterday I had all four tires filled with helium and the car is now light as a feather.

I was at 3369 lbs on a 230i with only the track package, ZF8 Auto, and the now-undeletable power sport seats on a half tank of gas. I also had some other stuff that adds small but measurable weight like all the floormats, the fix-a-flat kit in the trunk, and the service manual in the glove box.

The stock rims seem heavy...so I'm looking forward to dropping some unsprung weight this summer!

M240i: 3,602#, w/170# driver & 5 gallons of fuel.

It's not exactly light – that's for sure – which is why I think of the M240i as a GT car, one very much equivalent to my 1985 E24 M635CSi. That's meant as a compliment.

Peter_VIE’s M2 build is really impressive weight reduction to me without sacrificing too much comfort. Claimed 1570 kg (3461 lbs) stock down to 1475 kg (3252 lbs), a difference of 85 kg (187 lbs)!

I love my M235i Convertible, but as someone said, I regard it as more a great GT car than a sports car (in the sense of handling). And while reducing unsprung weight certainly may make a noticeable difference, I don't see that you can reduce the BMW's weight enough to turn it into something like a Caterham, or even a Lotus Elise.

The standard weight for an M235i (1455Kgs/3208lbs) is almost 2,000 pounds more than for my Lotus Elise 111S (806Kgs/1277lbs). While the BMW has a better power/weight ratio (224 vs 194 BHP/tonne) all that weight takes it toll on handling - which is fine by me: the MLite is a great all-rounder. I would never have taken the Elise on a long European roadtrip like I can the BMW.

So overall, yes, perhaps worth doing something about the wheels, but I'm not sure that bodywork and sprung weight trimming is going to get you a lot. Unless you alter the car so much that you get to a point where you'd be better off buying something designed from scratch to hit that spec' ....

My 2016 M235 6MT moonroof delete came in at 3,390lbs with a 1/4 tank of fuel an no weight reduction modifications.

A friend's M235 RWD 8AT with a moonroof came in at 3,510lbs on the same scale (1/2 tank of fuel). It just goes to show you how much extra weight the 8AT and moonroof add to these cars.

The only cf replacements I've found are for the entire roof, which doesn't interest me.

I would like a drop-in, weather-tight, squeak-free replacement for the glass and mechanicals that matches the contour of the glass.

The moonroof delete was not an option that was given to me. I would gladly have paid several hundred dollars to delete that completely useless bit of extra weight in the worst place possible. Plus there's the needless risk of the thing exploding and filling my car with glass shards.

Anyone know of this sort of moonroof replacement?

I probably don't have the lightest, but I can assure you mine's the heaviest when I'm in it... 😂

Our 2017 Canadian M240i was ordered without a moonroof, although we also didn’t take the Premium or Exec packages.

I'm going to see if I can get mine weighed by Fall Line Motorsports as a baseline after they install my LSD. It's a 2018 M240i 6-speed w/ convenience package only + moonroof delete. I want to say the only weight added by the convenience package is in the power-folding mirrors. I've actually thought to see if those mirror motors can be removed as I find no value in the power-folding mirrors, but weight savings there is probably negligible if I had to guess. The keyless entry with the convenience package was worth the very slight weight penalty.

Need to check on the status of my Cobra bucket seats too. Should be done very soon. I believe a good 60 lbs will be removed once those are installed, but I also bought a little SafeCraft fire extinguisher, so will need to add a few pounds back on.

I eventually want to do a rear cage + rear seat delete + harness as well. No weight savings there, however, most likely due to the weight of a rear cage. Probably a net gain, unfortunately. Would be awesome if I could one day add the M Performance CF roof panel + CF bonnet + Lexan glass, but we're talking like $10 grand right there. I suppose if I get to that point, it would still be cheaper than eating depreciation and paying up to the M2C. My car would also be a good deal lighter. Maybe I'll get lucky and those M Performance parts will go on major sale during a Black Friday event one year! One can only dream...

Haha, I have some similar thoughts and ideas, long term. So many ways to go, eventually weight does become the last "issue" after the rest of the chassis work is done and you're maxing out the car as is.

Yeah, I hear you on the "so many ways to go." I do want this car to be a true dual-purpose machine, mainly in that I still want to be able to drive it around on weekends here where we have super crappy roads. I could easily spend $10k on adjustable coilovers, hard bushings, new control arms, etc. but that would probably make my car drive like crap on public roads. I'm thinking $10k in serious weight savings could be more beneficial on both street and track than some hardcore chassis tuning. No question I'll need some more aggressive camber, but I'm not sure how much further I want to go on a chassis overhaul. Decisions, decisions!

Reviving this with an update. Took my car to the weigh station today with just under half tank of gas and all loose items removed... I hit BMW’s lowest published figure, and this is with THP, Blue brakes, M-Sport trim. Now just need to shave 180# off the front and 80# off the back lol without sacrificing all the creature comforts. How to do?

Reviving this thread with another update, weighed my stripper 228i 6MT slicktop the day I bought it, still bone stock with catless DP. Came in @ 1430kg without gas. I've probably dropped another 20kg since then after fitting a carbonfiber Recaro PP & deleting a couple of counterweights/dampers off the rear axle. Watch this space

Oh I'd forgotten about this thread.

These days my declared competition weight (that's including driver, no fuel) is 3250 lbs. There's still a decent amount to drop to make our boats a bit better.
