Yes, like getting hit in the face w/ a whipped cream pie traveling 600 MPH.

On the positive side, because the animal was moving, your insurance should cover it as a no-fault claim. I found this out talking to my agent, if it was a road kill or a piece of tire in the road an you hit it..it would be your fault. Animals moving across the road that are hit no-fault claims and should not impact you premium. Normally covered under Comprehensive clause.

So at least there is that...................

When doing an experiment for a school, my friend had his dumb grazed by a ping pong ball traveling close to 760MPH. Busted all kinds of blood vessels in his thumb. Looked really nasty but its good it wasn't a direct hit. And thats why you never put your hand in front of a loaded ping pong ball cannon.

EDIT: dumb to thumb but I am keeping it as is in the sentence because it still proves a point about my friend

At least you don't have a auxiliary cooler on that side.

Did the same

Hit one as well...same spot but I do have the auxiliary cooler. Damage came out to 6,500$ CAD and car was leaking coolant fluid so got back on a towing.

The front light external housing was cracked. That part alone (without the internals) cost 1000$.

Happily, that was not my car.

I feel sorry for the raccoon -- you killed an animal. You can have your car repaired and have insurance but that poor animal is dead. You were also speeding and probably scared it or it thought it could cross the street since it wasn't used to people flying through there at 99mph. Since it was an animal it's also a comprehensive claim so your deductible should be lower. Slow down, man esp at night.

it was in the morning not night and on the highway. the raccoon came over the wall as we crossed paths. Lastly in the same area a sheriff hit a deer the following week also it's not like I don't feel bad for hitting the raccoon.

Must have been the raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy, a real nasty one.

I hit a groundhog doing around 90 in my old car; heard a loud *BANG* and my vehicle bounced a little. High speeds and animals are a recipe for disaster. Glad you're okay.

update

So here's an update to my raccoon issue the damages came out to about $2500 (all safe covered) but the issue now is the damn shop tried to pass off an non OEM front end and didn't tell me how some of my parts are still on "back order" they gave me the car back like here you go good as new. once I got home I looked it over and was like hell no. I called the repair shop and my Insurance Company up and laid into them. so now I'm getting an OEM front end and more of my time wasted .... thanks raccoon
