Will you buy a G42 2 Series?
We're getting a better idea of what the next 2 Series will look like and the stats of the car. Will you buy a G42 2 Series?
US will get a 230i and M240i with the B48 and B58 motors. X-Drive as an option. Most likely no manual. No convertible option. Start of Production will be ~August-November 2021

Not as bothered by the lack of manual in the 230/240 I use my 230 right now as a daily so I want to see how livable it is with the trunk space and such but I'm very hopeful this will be a good car

No convertible so not interested. My car only has 57K miles so it'll remain my DD for a few more years anyway. If I had to replace today - Boxster.

I will probably be looking at a G87 M2 instead in a few years time, I want the manual transmission, possibly the last new car of any interest that will have one.

I've already got my keeper, classic BMW formula car which I would not be able to replicate....rear wheel drive, 4 cylinder, manual trans., the basic essentials of the heritage. The new one is not of interest. My next BMW will be a BEV "family car", such as the i4.

No manual no way! I’ll keep my 2014 with 20,000 miles on it.

I voted for the 2nd option, but I'm somewhere between that and the 3rd option. I like what I'm seeing. I only have around 41k on my 2015 m235i. At various points over the past few years I'd have probably said, "No way." But I really like the size and the inline 6 of my car, and my gut feeling is that the next gen might be the last hurrah for BMWs of this type. G42? Maybe. G87? Maybe. Neither and move on? Maybe. It's all going to come down to styling and specs and colors ... and how much I feel like I want a new toy.

My only reason for buying a car this size currently is for the convertible.
If there is no convertible with a manual then I'll be looking elsewhere. Considering my current one is less than a year old, I have a ways to go until that decision is made. But I did that on purpose knowing that this redesign was coming. |

No manual = no interest for me
While the ZF8 is the best torque converter auto I've driven and it suits the F22 well, I still want a RWD manual with LSD and the B58 motor. If the G42 doesn't have a 6 MT, it's off my list.
Also, I'd also much rather have a Leipzig-built car, as well as ED available, if that ever returns. Six cylinder Boxsters are great cars, superior driving to a F22, but they are a different, more specialized animal, with more depth in some talents, but not as versatile. I also don't care for the BMWs with the video game instrument clusters and the over-electronification in general, driver's "assistance," etc. Good luck with those out of warranty. I will say, at least the G42 doesn't have the horrific 3/4 series new nose. I saw an M3 at the dealer's 2 weeks ago, and it's still awful in person. What doesn't show up on photos is the droop of the nose into the buck teeth from the side or front quarter view. It's as though an anteater got its nose chopped off with a machete and now you're looking at the amputated nostril openings. One of the worst-looking BMWs ever. So one plus point for the G42 in avoiding that. Last edited by RvR; 04-29-2021 at 10:20 AM.. |

My M240i is paid off, so I'm going to keep it long enough for it to prove itself reliable. The next-gen 2er is looking great even wrapped in camo, though.
I always said this is BMW's last chance with me. Had to replace the valve cover and valvetronic motor at 52k miles so it's frankly not looking good so far. I'm somewhat excited to see what Lexus does next. They seem to be turning into the enthusiast's reliable Japanese car over time.

I am still very happy with my 235 after 6 years of ownership and almost 50K miles, so I am not in the market right now. But if I were to buy a new car, it would be the next iteration of the same one. My dealer called me the other day and that is exactly what I told them.
For what it's worth, we would not replace our '16 X3 with the current model. My wife says that the interior feels like a carnival, and not in a good way. |

Wife's loaded '16 228i M-Sport convertible is paid off, has 27K miles and is spotless inside and out. Don't see any motivation to trade it and go back to car payments.

This is a rendering based on some leaks that probably wouldnt be too far out. What do you guys think? Me personally always find new bmw design takes a while for me before I can actually like it. |

Will I buy a G42? If it has the same 8 year run as the F22/F23 hope not. I hope my car is still on the road when the G42 goes the way of the F22. If it's not, I'll likely consider the G42 based on the pics I've seen so far. At least BMW gave up on the G22 buck-tooth grille!
But, as it was when I purchased this car, I'll be looking for the best performance I can get in a 2-door coupe (not hatchback) with 4 usable seats and enough cargo space for a couple of golf bags / skis in the <$50k (USD) range. At the moment, there simply aren't a whole lot of cars that fit that criteria. Most have severely sloping rooflines which make headroom an issue even for me at 5'-6", have absolutely no rear legroom or have such tiny trunks that you can't fit a golf bag. Before you comment on the lack of legroom in the F22, keep in mind I said I'm 5'-6". I don't drive with the front seat all the way aft; an average sized adult can sit comfortably behind me.
