Unfortunately, I received 2 quotes from 2 dealerships - including the one I am getting the car from - and they were both in the neighbourhood of $7,000.00!! I couldn't believe it. After seeing this thread and the U.S. pricing I couldn't understand it! The installation cost "only" appears to be about $600.00 of the total. I am trying to find other options to obtain the part myself and have it installed by my dealership here in the Toronto area. Killramos, may I ask what the name of the dealership you dealt with? I wonder if I could buy it from them and have it shipped? Also, how did you find it over the winter? |

That is ridiculous. Make sure you confirm you are asking for the right part from them.
I dealt with Calgary BMW. Well known for being extremely expensive and having no real competition in the city for sales, parts, or service. I also think i had the first one in city if not close to the first one in Canada due to my incessant badgering about availability. Have you considered getting a quote from across the border? Make a day trip to Niagara falls and get it done in buffalo? It was also only ~700 to install the part which is still a ripoff since it is a simple bolt in pumpkin replacement. Make sure they aren't really hurting you there. I'm not sure what your options are for getting it installed outside the dealer wrt keeping your drivetrain warranty. It was great over winter. Helped me get out of a few ice ruts on more than one occasion. Just turned on DSC and the car pulled right out. It was also incredible for hooning in parking lots. The car is a dream to drift so balanced. The car was great in the winter tbh. Even with probably less than ideal tires. I went with OEM for the RFT and a good deal on light alloys. I will just get normal tires next time around with a more aggressive cold weather tread i think. |

I wasn't going to have installed by anyone other than a BMW dealership, but thought that the price you paid for the part was a lot cheaper than I could get here, so I thought about buying it outside of Ontario and have my dealership here in the GTA install it (about $600.00 for installation). Having said that I think my best bet would be to have it installed in the U.S. Should be covered by North American warranty...I hope. Thanks for sharing about the benefits during the winter. I'm convinced more than ever that having the LSD is the right decision for me (didn't go with any of the packages, so will justify the cost of the LSD for me). |

Just got a quote back from BMW Gallery for the LSD... $6140 Kilramos, did you deal with anyone specifically at CBMW? I don't understand how the prices can vary so wildly. I would prefer to keep my vehicle purchase through Gallery but may have to take a trip down south if it's going to save me nearly $2000. I'm getting the feeling not many owners in Calgary have requested this part. I was initially told it was for the auto transmission only. I had to supply the release article and part# before they would acknowledge it didn't matter what transmission was ordered. Cheers. |

I have a feeling we might be taking it up the rear over the drop in the dollar, i bought mine July 2014. I don't know anyone else in Calgary with the part. As a note Calgary BMW and Gallery are well known to be the same dealer with the same owner and the same inventory. Driving down to glenmore will likely not save you any money, they aren't really competing with each other... Last edited by Killramos; 07-09-2015 at 10:52 AM.. |

The Dilwari Group is quite good at ensuring they will be the only ones to take my money. Calgary is getting closer to a population that could support a 3rd dealership, I wonder who will run it? I think they are planning to open an Infiniti dealership soon as well, the beast just keeps growing. But back to the LSD, maybe I'll have to consider a custom diff from diffsonline like LiquidPaper did. Unless... Kilramos would you be kind enough to sell me yours? US dealers still have the LSD at $2895? That's about $3650 CDN. If that is indeed the current price I don't see how it can climb to $6140 here. I might have to look into buying one from a US dealer and have it shipped up, even with shipping/customs and labor I'm sure I could keep it under $4500. Or... road trip? |

Simple answer, it probably doesn't. They do not come installed from factory so you have to get it done your self.
Otherwise you can stick your head under the rear axle and read the part number on the differential. Or you could turn all the nannies off, do a burnout, and see how many lines your car leaves ( 2 patches = LSD, 1 patch 1 tire fire no LSD). |
