M2 vs. "M235i Cup"

Today BIMMERPOST released some spy shots of a so-called "M235i Cup".
Some body panel shapes might be similar to some M2 shapes ?

Probably just as fast or faster than the M2 (I suppose), but one will be a perfect daily driver with the same level of performance and the other will be for the track only.

...the big sticky tires look cool.
I am not sure on the fender flares...the first pic looks a bit funny the way the fender joins the side skirt.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the 235i Racing (Cup) cars have 335 hp? And stripped out interior + roll cage, but they have the ZF8 trans?

I don't know for sure what this car will bring to the table. If we are talking 0-60 numbers, then an extra 40hp might make a bit of difference, but I'm not sure it's going to outweigh what this car might do in terms of overall track ability. This is probably gutted like crazy and much more focused for the track. That's why I say it might be faster than the M2.

The M235 racing has been out for a while. It's a track car.

I'm aware. But I never saw any 0-60 numbers for the Racing models and regardless this looks slightly modified from the original release. The point is still a track focused M235i racing is probably going to be faster around a track than a stock M2. The previous poster seemed to allude to the M2 having more horsepower meaning it would obviously be the faster car and I'm saying outside of 0-60, probably not.

Because there aren't any 0-60 numbers to show or talk about. The M235i racing was made by BMW for the VLN series that runs on the Nurburgring and they do rolling starts on a grid group separate to the GT3 cars. It is not a street car where a company doing testing would do 0-6-, stopping tests, etc....

According to this European article in dutch, the biggest complaints about the M235i racing was the handling and stability of the car. Also they are rumoring that BMW is using the platform to test "components" for either the M2 or M2 "CSL"

Last trackday I visited at Spa-Francorchamps a m235i racing crashed in the famous raidillion turn. A quite tricky turn at high speed. I overheard a conversation about the m235i racing wasn't 100% stable at that turn. Something about the ESP acting strange in that turn.

Long story short:

Wow that is a pretty hard hit. That is a challenging spot to take at speeds.

I'm surprised these guys even run with ESP on?

The ESP is specially calibrated for track use. Not to be compared with normal ESP.

It's only what i heard from a conversation from other visitors. They were in no way involved with that racing team, so I don't know the exact information about this crash.

I have raced this weekend in the 24h of Zolder with the M235i Cup.

We were first in Class after 3.5 hours but then we had an exploding brake disk. We went to 40th place.

But After 24h of hard work by The BMW Motorsports Trophy team Walkenhorst and all of our drivers, we could manage to get back to 3rd so a podium finish.

It was for me a dream come thru to drive for the Bmw Team Walkenhorst who runs these factory cars. Talking to BMW Motorsport engineers was just awesome. I have waited a very long time to get such opportunity!

It's me on the far left

Some last checks from Bmw Motorsport before the start of the 24hour race.

Also nice to mention all m235i cars wo did this race finished without any faults. How about that for a street car build into a race car!

The car is Awesome to drive. It s a real BMW and very reliable for endurance races. The 8 speed zf gearbox is programmed very good and gives a good racing feel and real fast up and down shifts. Sound from exhaust with pops and bangs is also very nicely done.

M235i cup car is very quick, in fact it is about 2 seconds off the gt3 lap time at the 24 hours of Nurburgring for most of the race. 10" rims square.

Sorry but the m2 or m2 csl won't be as fast on a curcut. Problem with this car and most in its price range are the drivers. I have seen some horrendously stupid racing in these cars, although Ferrari challange takes the cake. All it takes to compete is a checkbook.

But there are some good drivers in the field and if they can navigate through the other drivers they turn some seriously impressive times in a sub 80k fia caged car. There is talk of bringing this car to the states and I will be all over one if that happens and they can compete in perreli workd challange.

Sure can, from your garage to the trailer. You would never want to drive it on the street anyway, full cage harness no ac, ext.
