You are constantly doubting this car. It's an M car, so people will want it.
And if less people will want it, that may mean it will end up a classic like the Clownshoe.

Yes thank you!

As a community of enthusiasts, I think it's easy to adopt the mindset of "If this car is going to be as great as we think (or know) it will be, then it will be impossible to acquire because EVERYONE will want one!"

But keep in mind that, unfortunately, we represent a relatively small demographic of BMW owners/buyers.

had a good laugh earlier today...called two dealers here. First one wanted a $500 refundable deposit- which would make me #5 on his list...fair enough. But 2nd dealer, of course wanting to sell me a car today, not 4 months from now, tells me the M2 may not even be coming to North America. #a$$clown

just wish this thing would be revealed already..
I really have a bad feeling about the Canadian pricing. Add to that the higher sales tax and an M2 with DCT can reach 70+

My opinion post from the sticky thread:

"Actually the 1M was also limited to supply constraint within the 1 year it was produced. They planned for around 60 cars per month at the factory, which fluctuated based on the demand of the regular 1-series and X1. The only country that had a set number of production cars was the UK which was 450. Every car produced for the UK came tagged with its production number 1-450 on it somewhere.

The M2 will most likely be the same. An estimate of how many they will be wiling to churn out per month, but no max number per market (except maybe the UK again).

The real question is, will they continue production after the 2017 date last seen in the computer system? If not, the M2 may be the next 1M in terms of availability and value."

I thought i read there would be 3 "production runs" or somethng like that....? Im not sure what exactly this means however...judging by what you say about 2017 I take it that production runs are not the same as model years...?

Im hoping that they would make this car for at least 2-3 years...

I'm just going off the last shot of the ordering system that was put up where it had production ending on something like 6/17. However, it also showed the regular 2 series cars ending production at the same time. We know those aren't going away so they are most likely going to get the LCI at that point.

BMW may or may not decide to continue production of the M2 after that. We probably won't know until closer to release.

I've been through this rodeo many times with several different marques.

My advice: get on a waiting list with a dealer. Here in the LA area, many dealers haven't even started waiting lists yet. You are still ahead of 90% of the people out there.

You just never know. I was able to get a Cayman GT4 allocation, but I put my name down very early. I know other people who were late but still scored an allocation because many people dropped off the list.

I think the people who really want an M2 right now will be able to get one at MSRP. Just have to put some effort now and keep an eye on things as they develop. I suspect that people who wait until after the reveal will also be able to get one no problem, but might as well get on a waiting list just in case!

It's only half an M car, for a simular price after discounts you can buy a 100% M3 or 4, people seem to think there will be a big que for the M2 but no one I've talked to has even heard about it, and when I tell them they all say I'd get the M3/4 , if you're happy with what the M2 offers then I'm happy for you, but it seems to me the only people that will buy an M2 are people that can't afford an M3/4

This conversation has been had many times around here. Although this may be true of some people, the true driving enthusiast is more concerned with engagement the percentage of M in the car. Other M cars have grown up, we miss what the older M provided.

Take a look at history, the 1M, a solid prediction of the engagement and culture this car with introduce. No one knew about that one either.

You would be surprised to know how many owners of exotics also host a 1M inside their stable. Size matters - really. I'm convinced that 'compact' means for many keeping the car length under 4m50 (177.2 in). M2 will be. M3/M4 ain't anymore since the E9X.

Reason I'm eyeing a M2:
-anticipated performance/handling/balance
-perfer compact nimbleness
-m4 out of my budget

M2 offers me a realistic opportunity to get into a M car!

And how big was your sample size? 10 people? And you're taking their comments seriously when you say they also haven't even heard the M2 or know what it's about? Also, it's not half an M car. It's got 4 wheels, not 2. Just wait till the car comes out first. You have every right to have an opinion but your statements don't add up.

Nope. I have an M4 and am first on my dealer's list for the M2.

Good for you. And the only people that buy an M3/4 are people that can't afford M5, M6 or 911. Yep, that's how it works.

My dealer is asking for a $2,000 non-refundable deposit. Though for me, being a repeat customer, they are willing to lower it to $1,000. I would be third on the list. Without knowing the cost, specifications, and overall design, I'm not willing to meet their requirement (for the deposit). I'm looking elsewhere. If not successful, I'll look at other options including an M4 for my fun car.

To me, a dealer asking for an non-refundable deposit before the car info is released is border line insulting.

Considering you are a repeat customer, that's even more unacceptable
