I'm sure the A3 will be born once people start to calculate their lease payments. Pretty confident an RS3 lease will be anywhere from $100-200 more than an M2.

M2 will probably hold a 60% residual at 3 years 10K or better

RS3 will probably hold a 55% residual at 3 years 10K

The sound of the Audi will never do it for me. The AWD makes sense for my epic winters, but the weight and driving characteristics are not what I crave.

I can't remember if I said this before.

Worth watching. So let's recap: Not as fun as the Golf, more expensive and slower around the track.

Dear M2, the crown is for you to lose...

P.S. I will say I'm really impressed with the Golf R and the amount of praise they have gotten. I'd really love to try me one

Yes I found this result highly shocking. How could VAG make it happen!

Qudos to the Golf R, that RS3 sounds really good though with the sports exhaust, really nice indeed.

That's the problem with Audis – they're pretty much hit and miss.
Also, this is not the first fast Audi with brake problems in recent years.

I'd love to talk with someone from inside Quattro GmbH about what's going on there. Their engineers have proven that they can build great cars, so...

Seeing what the Civic Type R did to the M3 I'd be concerned the golf R will do the same with the M2 and that just wouldn't be cool. BMW needs to give the M2 everything to ensure its quicker than a golf R

Honda can build sports cars, VW not (at least not without Porsche). So M2 has nothing to fear from the Golf R. Golf is a shit overpriced FWD.

Totally disagree here. What's the RS3 then? The golf R beat the RS3 on a recent track battle with less power and less brakes. It has a great chassis for what it is. My whole point is if CTR beat RS3 and M3 and Golf R beat RS3 BMW need to make the M2 better than the M3 to beat the Golf R. But we all know BMW will not allow this so I expect more controversy to come when M2 is compared

While it would appear that the RS3 is not living up to performance expectations, I just thought I should inform you that the RS3 (in hatch form) weighs significantly less than an M235i. As I recall, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 lb less.

No.

RS3 curb weight: 1595kg (DSG)
M235i curb weight: 1530kg (6MT) / 1545kg (ZF8)

These values are from the official manufacturer specs in Germany, which means both are measured according to the same EU norm (90% fuel, all other liquids topped up, 75kg driver).

Golf R curb weight: 1476kg (6MT) / 1495kg (DSG)

Fair enough, I forgot about the differences between US and EU curb weight standards.

How the hell are those ugly hatchbacks even supposed to compare to the M2. I seriously don't care if a hatchback had a v12 under the hood, it would still make me throw up in my mouth whenever I look at it.

Hatchbacks are not about the looks, they're about being compact while being very practical at the same time. Not the usual qualities BMW drivers are looking for, though. Especially in the States, that's why BMW doesn't even offer the 1-series hatchback there.
It's a bit of a different story in other countries, though.

Having a fat and ugly girlfriend who puts out would also be very practical.
I think we all prefer a high maintenance bombshell though.

Practicality is not something that should influence buying a sports car or even a luxury car for that matter. Practicality is for soccer moms and kid's...although VW's been doing a bang up job at giving a kia a run for their money.

If even M2 beats everything, here in Europe it will still not sell as well as Golf R, RS3 or A AMG. And even if Focus RS beats Golf R, RS3 and A AMG and costs less it will not sell here in Europe because it is "just a Ford". So I really don't care about those overpriced common and boring to drive Golf R, RS3 and A AMG.

As in any of these comparisons, but especially in close match-ups, tires mean a lot. If the cars are not on identical tires, you're not really comparing the cars. For example, if we pick an underdog and put either the new RE-71R or new BFG Rival S tires on it, and then run it against the overdog on PSS, Pzero, any-other-street-tire, we can easily build a case that the underdog is a world-beater. Just rambling on here...(since I have no clue what tires either one of these cars are using, ).

Yeah... I'm very flattered by this, must admit. I have an M235i so as a BMW fan I'm more than satisfied; would I rather it was the real thing - M2? Sure, but then I also have the Golf R, which can arguably compete with the RS3, which in turn is considered by many in this thread to a real M2 challenger... So I feel covered from all sides; this is the first time in my life when I'm not lusting after any car other than I have
