Rubber Trunk Mat

Can someone tell me if the all weather trunk mat is supposed to go on top of the piece that covers the battery, or does it replace that piece?

Mine came on top of that piece and fits perfectly. I didn't even think to see how it would look or fit without the piece. Better two layers to the battery than one I guess?

Does someone else have it differently?

I tried it both ways and it fits more snugly with the original cover off, but thats because mine has that cargo net thing installed
