Anyway. I will tell you this: I had an F10 535i 8AT with paddle shifters back in 2010-11.

The car was a boat in terms of not agile, too heavy, BUT one of the things I liked was the 8AT (and paddle shifters) mated to the N55. Fast, intelligent, sporty and comfy.

To make a long story short: Just order an M235i 8AT. It won't dissappoint you.

Cheers
Robin
Thanks. That helps. I will consider it.

all 4 series have the "sport" automatic so test drive one of those then compare to your 335is DCT. the auto on the M235 should perform the exact same as the 4... you might find you want a 435 to replace your 335. for comparison sake i have the s-tronic DCT in my S4 and am 100% ok with the sport auto in the 335/435 for my next car.

As a gearbox, the DCT is vastly superior in every way. I've driven both and there is no comparison.

I miss my DCT on my 335is everyday. nothing like it!

There was an article about some head of M division saying that the DCT will be strictly for M cars in the future.

So if what I remember is true, accept the slush box... Or go audi.

I have had the sports auto in my Z4 for a year now and I can't stand it. First auto I have had long term and will be getting back in a M235i manual as soon as is physically possible!!

It has two modes, I call them all or nothing. "normal" mode, it short shifts so badly that when you go to accelerate it is caught flat footed, first tries one gear down then instantly decides it needs two... so you are now on probably a second delay and then you are in a really low gear and it's got all aggressive when you just wanted a bit.

The "All" mode just hangs on to every gear relentlessly, rolling down the road at a constant 30mph at 6k rpm in second and it refuses to change....

Utter tosh... If you have to have an auto due to physical complications I wouldn't stress about non DCT as the sports auto shifts almost as fast and does a decent job on the way down the box in sports mode with paddles (pleasing downshift blips and super fast)

I want to be involved in driving a car, miss heel and toeing into corners on the brakes.. I don't want to just push a button and go wow that changed quickly....
