Seat belt warning popping up while driving

I was headed home from a road trip today and the "buckle up" warning kept popping up. Unbuckling and buckling didn't fix it either. Finally I had to move around a bunch in my seat to fix it. Anyone else have this problem?

I had that happen to me, they had to replace the seat belt tensioner to fix it.

If you have something with some weight to it in the passanger seat it will activate. It thinks someone is there and wants them to buckle up. Happen to me with a watermellon, lol.

I've had that happen with something in the passenger seat but not while I was in the driver's seat like Bent's. Weird.

That was my first thought too, but I didn't have much in there. Also, since moving around in my seat fixed it I've narrowed it down to the driver's seat.

I was hoping that it was just a connection under my seat that I can fix real quick. I can't quick fix a tensioner lol.

If it's the passenger seat, leaving your phone on there triggers the warning for whatever reason.

Ha, I thought the same thing, but I don't know what crap the car turns off if it thinks that the seat belt isn't buckled, so I'd rather be warned. I'm pretty diligent about wearing a seat belt, so I don't mind the warning.

Hmm, that's interesting. My phone was on the seat, but it was there basically the entire trip.

I'm surprised that's even possible. Terrible idea.

I am capable of knowing whether I have fastened my seatbelt without a "ding" sounding and a warning message.

Similarly, I have removed the warning message on the idrive at each startup.

To further flaunt convention, I removed the airbag warnings from both visors

Yeah I noticed one day that my warning was going on/off randomly and I knew for a fact that the burrito I ordered wasn't heavy enough to set it off.

lol, I've done all of these but the seat belt notification. I want to know if things are messed up with safety restraints and I guess potentially air bags?

Have you ever seen passengers with their legs up on the dash? Or little dogs on their lap? If the air bag goes off, there are broken legs or broken dogs. The warning labels won't stop people from being stupid. I haven't heard the seatbelt warning because my seat belt is always on. However,it's good to know the warnings are working. To each his or her own. As I said,I'm surprised you can code that off. Especially in the U.S.

I always wear my seatbelt - I just do not like being told I must.

It should stop them from suing while acting stupid, though. Lawyers know.

I got this warning too yesterday on a return drive. Can you clarify why a phone sitting in the passenger seat triggers a seat belt alert?

I always get angry at those who complain about the nanny state when it comes to seat belts.
Unless you have signed a waiver of care in case of major traumatic injury, keep you mouth shut. I don't want to pay for your lunacy.

I've found that I can't put my phone in the middle of the seat, I have to place it on the edge where it contours. If it's in the middle or near the middle it will set off the sensor. It's possible it moved while you were readjusting your seat position. ...just an observation.

I have no idea. The only reason I could guesstimate is that the seat sensors are using a wireless signal and the phone is interfering with it (like how putting your car keys in the same pocket as your phone sometimes interferes with the comfort access)
