Happy Thanksgiving.. Here's another 1st world problem
As I am now about half way through my current lease with my m235i, I am beginning to wonder what my next move should be. I currently do not drive to work nor do I drive much during the week at all, as my car is definitely a weekend warrior n occasional dd when I need it to be. I am sure I will test drive a few other cars, but as of now it is likely I will either buy my car at lease end or lease another 2 (m240i). I love driving my car and would be totally happy continuing to drive it well beyond the term of the lease. The car is pretty well equipped with the comfort n tech package, along with the LSD, HK, and some bits I added to the car along the way. Which are the M-perf exhaust, Dinan springs, carbon spoiler/mirrors, m2 dual slated grills, and some wider rubber. Curious if any would opt for the newer motor 2 series or stick with what I have.
The car had an issue over the summer where I overheated due to the fan faulting completely. The car shut down completely during this time, so I was unable to drive it and do any damage apparently. BMW replaced the faulty fan with a new one and it's been good ever since. Just wanted to include that in case its more of an issue possibly later then what I may know now. Thanks guys. I definitely would keep it unless you wanted an M2.

The only advantage to the M240 is the extra stock power. If that's all you want, add a $200 tuner and have more power than the M240. If you want even more power, add a JP4 and downpipe and so on. The N55 in pretty tried and true and reliable. The verdict is still out on the B58 in terms of longterm reliability. The B58 is a more powerful motor and has better systems to control heat, but it's a far more complex motor in comparison to the N55. Many reviewers also complain that the B58 feels like it doesn't have the legs beyond 5500rpms like the N55 and doesn't sound remotely as good either. Basically the N55 reportedly feels closer to a NA motor and has the typical BMW rush to redline whereas the B58 is even more focused on the low and midrange power. With that said, dynos show the B58 making great power beyond 5500rpms, better than the N55. Perception is everything.

I had a choice to wait for the 240, but it didn't seem like the hype of a new engine was worth "trying".

Not to take this thread too far off topic or hijack it but I had a question; Did you get the approval of someone at the dealership to add extra parts like the Dinan springs, or the carbon fiber spoiler/mirrors?

I will never understand modding a leased car. It's like tearing up large bills and throwing them down the drain.

Yes. No issues with installing either as long as I did not drill holes in the trunk. Of course, no issue with the Dinan springs as long as they were installed by a professional shop. N as far as modding a leased car, I did not pay for the exhaust. I got a credit from BMW and used it for that, which also was enough to cover one mirror cap. Also, I lease cars with the idea of possibly keeping it after, which I did state above. I have bought out 2 leases and kept the cars for years after, and may very well buy this one next. I honestly wish I did not need the springs and wasn't expecting to, but it had a little bit of body roll stock and the springs took care of that. Got the spoiler for $250 from jbspeed, so all in all I didn't really shell out all that much on it.
