Is my Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leaking?
Recently got a 2014 M235i used, wondering if this is an OFHG leak. I have 111,000km on the car.
Also wondering if I should also change the belt as well. |

easy? You have to take the hole intake manifold so i wouldn't say it's easy... Also you need to make sure coolant doesn't get into the oil lines and viceversa .... On top of that before starting the engine your need to pull the fuel pump fuses and crank the car for like a minute to purge any air in the oil lines else you can end up seizing the engine... |

you don't have to completely remove the intake manifold, you can simply loosen it to get access to a specific bolt. an experienced shop should be able to do it in half the time pikachu quoted. you just have to find a shop that won't charge you 'book' time

Make sure to prime the oil pump before running the engine. These engines can be a bit wonky when it comes to servicing the oil pump, oil pan gasket, and OFHG. If the oil pump cavitates for a bit, the motor may spin a rod bearing. BMW has a TSB specifically noting to prime the oil pump when replacing the OFHG.

Doing the work on the ofhg during an oil change is no different than doing the oil change itself from the perspective of the oil system. Now, could you do this to be extra safe? Sure. But it's not required. References: https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-repl...ing-gasket-f30 |
