Issue with my 2007 750i - Will Venmo $100 to whoever helps solve it

Hi guys, I am in desperate need of help in fixing an issue with my 2007 750i. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will try to keep this as short as possible.

8 months ago I attempted to engage my automatic parking break and I received a "parking brake malfunction" error message. After tons of research, I figured out the plastic gear in the actuator was broken. I ended up replacing the plastic gear with a new metal/stainless steel gear.

The car sat at my parents house for approximately 3 weeks while I waited for the part and OBD to arrive (inspection expired in April so I didn't want to drive it). Once I received my Foxwell Obd, I turned the car on and received a low battery warning. I have since driven the car enough to charge the battery back up to 100% (verified with AutoZone)

Upon plugging in the OBD scanner, I was able to clear the parking brake malfunction code, however, I now have a new error message. The new error message is "parking brake fault" and "dbc malfunction." When i scan the car, the code is error 6023 "wheel-speed sensor." I purchased 2 new rear wheel speed sensors and replaced the old ones and I still have these errors.
I am at a total loss for words and money. Please help me. I'm afraid to drive the car in fear of something else breaking. Any help will be greatly appreciate.

I have detailed the codes that I am receiving below. Please please please help me. I swear on everything I will Venmo $100 to whoever helps me clear these codes on my own, I put that on everything. I really don’t want to have to take the car to the bmw stealership.

A3BA - No message from parking brake receiver
9CAC - Brake light switch faulty
5EAB - DSC - Wheel Speed Sensor (rear right)
5F00 - DSC - Brake signal from engine control unit

Prior to the gear breaking in my parking brake, I had never had these error messages before. I only received the above errors after replacing the broken plastic gear and then clearing the parking brake malfunction error code.

The codes have nothing to do with each other . Before you go changing out a bunch off parts, do a disconnect of the neg cable, clear the codes, charge the battery, and see what repeats itself. Codes pop up for no reason, or out off the blue, and with out being associated with each other. Report back after performing these steps

JuniorB,

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I am currently at work so i will have to perform these steps as soon as I get home.

I just want to summarize your reply so that i can be sure that I understand.

1. Disconnect the negative cable on the battery
2. With the negative cable disconnected, I should plug in the OBD and clear all the codes?
3. I should then plug the negative cable back in and charge the battery.
4. Turn the car on and see what error codes pop back up.

If the above is correct, here are my 2 questions.
1. Can i do a scan of the error codes with the negative battery disconnected?
2. I received a "low battery" warning only once, and it happened after I turned the car on for the first time after it sat for 3 weeks. I went and had the battery tested at AutoZone and they said it was at 12.6 amps and 70% charged. I drove the car around for 1.5 hours on the highway and had the battery tested 2 days later and it was at 100%. In terms of charging the battery, will I need to take it somewhere to have it charged or will it still have a 100% charge once i plug the negative cable back in?

Sorry for the long reply. I am car illiterate but I have nowhere near the funds that BMW will try to charge me to fix all this stuff.

Disconnecting the negative battery cable is to basically 'drain' all the electrical components. You should leave it disconnected for about 10 mins.

Ok. So unplug the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. Do i plug it back in before i scan the codes or do I leave it unplugged?

If i plug it back in before reading the codes, should i take the battery somewhere to have it charged or can I just plug it back in and read the codes?

Before you disconnect the battery, scan the battery with that reader, im sure the reader has a built in feature to tell you the battery voltage.

If battery voltage is healthy then clear any codes that are present. After that, disconnect the negative cable and leave it disconnected for 10-15 mins (wrap it up in a cloth or something, make sure it doesn't touch anything!). Connect the cable and go for a drive. See if codes come back.

Battery voltage should be 12.6V with key OFF and 13.5-14.5V while car running.

Please make sure you are comfortable doing anything mentioned in this thread. When messing around with electrical system all kinds of issues can happen if you're not careful.

Use all info in this thread at your own risk!

Heres what i figured i would do. I was going to take the BMW to AutoZone and have them read the voltage with the ignition off and with the ignition on. If the reading is in-line with that attachment you provided, then I know the battery is good. I was then going to drive back home and disconnect the battery to perform your "drain" procedures above.

Hey guys,

I tried all of the steps above and I still get the same error codes.

Here’s what I’ve noticed. My OBD scanner doesn’t appear to actually be clearing any of the fault codes. For instance, when I do a quick scan of the error codes, it’ll pop up with several errors. When I click on erase error, it’ll act like it’s erasing them but the orange light on my dash never actually goes away. As soon as I do another scan, the error codes pop right back up.

For your reference, I have the Foxwell NT510 for BMW.

Remove the positive AND negative battery cables. Touch them together for about 10 seconds. DO NOT have either one connected to the battery. This will discharge the capacitors in all the modules used for memory retention and in theory clear all codes. I've never done this with an '07 750 but have on other vehicles and it's always worked. As long as there's not a hidden secondary battery somewhere else I would think you would be fine.

Appreciate the response man. Can anyone on here confirm that they have done this?

It seems kinda odd and I’m terrified that I’m going to screw something up even further.

It's called a capacitive discharge. I've done it dozens of times on different makes and models but never on a BMW.

One thing I’ve learned is how messy the electrical components on a BMW are. Additionally, the battery seems to play an insanely important role on these cars so I’m terrified of doing anything battery related until someone confirms that they’ve done it on their BMW 7 series.

I will definitely read into this a bit more and see if my pal Google can help at all.

Read this thread when it was first posted, but withheld comment pending others' suggestions. The thing that originally got my attention was the kind of faults reported: parking brake, speed sensor etc. hate to say this but the bell it rang was 'rodents'. Noticed also that your car appears to have been inactive for extended periods. Don't know if rodents are an issue where you are, but here in the north east they're a freaking plague.

I don't know if you saw his other thread but apparently that's exactly what happened...

ahhh, that's too bad for him, I'd have preferred to be wrong about that. I saw that other thread about rodent damage but I didn't realize it was the same guy starting a new thread. I'll decline the hundred bucks reward, he's going to need it. Thanks for letting me know.
