How Wide is a M240i Coupe w/Its Mirrors Open/Unfolded?

I'm picking up my car on Tuesday and am planning out garage space. I've got a somewhat narrow tandem garage and need to know how wide the car is with its mirrors open / unfolded. Has anyone measured their 240's full width?

Isn't that posted on the tech specs section of the BMW site? In fact I am 100% certain it's posted there.

I did download the car's Specifications from the Owner's tab on BMW's main page, and the width is shown as 69.8". From somewhere in the dim past, I seem to remember that measurement is taken without mirrors - not only for BMW's cars, but in general.

I just measured the wife's Mazda 3 and came up with the following widths:

Mirrors Open: 84"
Mirrors Folded: 74"
Front Driver's Door Handle to Front Passenger's Door Handle: 71"

Mazda says the car is 71" wide.

I figure it's a long shot that anyone on 2addicts has had a reason to take these measurements, but thought I'd check anyway.

I'll keep looking - thanks!

I think I can simply use the Mazda's dimensions to begin making space for the M240i. Crazy how those two cars are virtually the same size: 176L X 70/71W X 55/57H.

Update: Found it! The mirrors add 8.3" to the width of the car, for a total of 78.1".

It's really cool of BMW to have at least two specification sheets for the M240i as one of them has drawings of the car, including measurements with and without mirrors.

I don’t see specs with mirrors folded.
https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/2-se...fications.html

It looks like 78.1” with mirrors open.

Sure hope you can make it fit. If not, I guess the wife's Mazda 3 gets to sleep outside from now on. Good luck with that one.

That's where I ended up once prompted by BEM-S4. I started out looking at the specs in the online owner's manual. They didn't include that data.

Have to admit it...still working on that one. I'm better than I used to be, though. I think.

The only way both cars won't go in there is because they can't go in there. I'm virtually certain it's going to work. :fingers-crossed

I'm trying to imagine a situation where the width of the mirrors matters more than the fact that you have to open the door to get out.

Do you have power folding mirrors. I have a 2016 228ix M sport and also have a tight fit and keep them folded going in and out. In they measure 3.5 inches Out they measure 9.5 inches per side. I don't know how this compares to a M240.

That's easy. The garage door is narrower than the full width of the garage. So once you are inside, there is plenty of space for the door to swing. We have a width problem occasionally with the X3, which clears the door by not very much with the mirrors out, but has plenty of room for the door to swing, because it sits on the right hand side of a two-car garage and so has room in the center. My 2-34, on the left side, has wider coupe doors and the driver-side door opens with room to spare.

I don't know. Looking at the 2018 online manual, it shows the car having folding mirrors. My car is a 2017, so I'm guessing it also has them. I'll find out Tuesday when I pick the car up.

What I'd like to be able to do is fold the mirrors before pulling into the garage - that would be ideal.

We manage this by angling both cars, and backing mine in (left bay, from outside). If I put it so the Rrear is close into the corner, we can open both drivers doors fully into the center.

Tandem garage here, so one car is in front of the other. At its narrowest point the garage is 10'4" wide, so there's not the flexibility you're describing and that I'm used to with side-by-side garages.

Thats what I do. Goes in much easier with 7 more inches on left side.
