Today's Whine: Trunk keeps popping open.

Or "boot" for you furriners.

Every few days, maybe once a week, the trunk is loosely open. This wouldn't be a big problem except the people I'm kidnapping can get out.

Try tying the hands and feet to the tie down loops.

The trunk has only popped on me once, and I'm pretty sure I hit the key fob button in my pocket.

Happens to me sometimes when other keys or the loop on the key chain press against the boot unlock button on the remote, while the keys are in my pocket and the car is in the garage.

try driving around with the fob in the console cubbie. If its not getting an open signal from fob or under dash button , the lock may need adjusting.

I would not go that route. Too many things "follow" the fob.

Has your dealer looked at the car? Warranty should cover any issue tat are causing this to happen.

Maybe it is just us old guys, but I have the identical problem, only it happens every couple of days. Carrying around too much crap in our pockets? I looked around for something I could put the fob into that would prevent the button from being squeezed, but I couldn't find anything that was not way too large.

Not much in that pocket but the key fob. It does have a knife, a house key, and one of those little cards for store discounts for the gas station.

I'll look for the code, I think it might have one. I don't much need to open the trunk that way ...

Could it be the candy you are carrying around in the same pocket as the FOB for luring the kiddies be contacting the "open" button?

Seriously, likely the FOB button is being pressed when in your pocket. I've heard of guys having their phones dial out when in their pockets.

Try throwing the FOB in the cup holder when you go out the next few times and see if the trunk continues to open...betting it won't.

I wouldn't code it out....but that's just me

The candy goes in the other pocket, nearer the door.

The thing about having the keys in my pocket is so I can lock and unlock the car. Putting them in the cup holder is second only to putting them on the roof ...

It's possible the button is being pushed in my pocket, because of the banana that's in there. Sorry, I wasn't all that happy to see you ...

I get the Trunk Open message at least once a week as well when I get back in my car.

I'm attributing it to my pocket unlocking the trunk, which is scary because I may have accidentally pressed the door unlock button as well, who knows

I used to wake up and find the car with all the windows down and the sunroof open. The unlock button on the key FOB was getting held down when I was sitting on the couch. That was on an E92 335i and, when it rained, it was a serious problem. I coded out the function in my M240i that opens everything when the unlock button is held down.

I know the "skinny jeans" are very popular and really help draw the ladies especially when out "clubbing" but y'all really need get some bigger pants with real pockets so you have plenty of room for all your junk, I mean everything you carry in your pockets. Those Duluth Trading commercials look interesting, especially the pants the beavers can't eat.

buy one of the BMW cases for your fob. A bit big BUT I have never had this problem since I got my 335 in 2013. Now I have a case on the 335 key and 235 key.

To me it makes more sense than Duluth pants or anything else a beaver can't eat.

Sorry for taking the thread a bit off track but previous comments led me down a weird path. For what it's worth, I have two of the BMW Key Cases for the fob that I purchased on a whim. I'd be willing to let them go for $10 each plus priority mail shipping. If anyone is interested, PM me. One is new in the box and the other was used for a few days before I decided I really didn't need it. As I recall they are blue and black in color.

When I looked at the BMW key cases online at BMWUSA, I got the impression that they were leather or some other material that would not stop the buttons from being squeezed. In fact, by making the package larger, the case could make it more likely that there would be inadvertent activation of the trunk or window openers. Any thoughts?

I think the thought is that the stiffness of the leather and the effect of covering the fob buttons, distributing any force upon fob while in your pocket, would interfere with enough focal point pressure against a button on the fob such that it would not be displaced sufficiently to make electrical contact.

I just tried out a pouch called Fobguard that I bought on Amazon. It completely blocks the fob's signal while the fob is inside it. It works; I tried pressing the buttons while I was standing next to the car, and no response from the car. The downside is that you have to take the fob out of the pouch to start the car or whatever. That is annoying, but probably not as much of a problem as having the trunk open or finding the windows open. I'll see how it goes.
