New Grocery Getter on order. HK sound YAY or NAY? (Canada)

I have had used cars my entire life (15). Figured I better do it once in my life to see how it actually feels to buy new. Take delivery in spring. Hope its ok to post this.

Congrats man! nothing like a new car, that no one else has farted in

I previously purchased a new '12 GTI then switched out for the NEW '15 GTI when it was launched, due to a little bit of buyers remorse and the gap in performance.. I lost so much money, I basically started to look beyond the VW/Audi spectrum for a hot coupe that would keep me happy for at least 10 years.. So I went in for a new base model m235i, with sunroof delete, plain white, 6MT, MPE and LSD and it was getting to be around $56-57k after taxes. The sales rep called me the next day saying "I have this MP Edition that was just traded in on an executive lease, only 12k km, it can be yours for $49k", it was January/16.. I did my research, and confirmed what he claimed, about the value in this car vs buying new. Ended up saving $5k on the purchase ($11k savings on the car, new), got 5 years of warranty, with maintenance, and a very happy first time BMW owner.

Now that I've been converted, I hope to do as you have, on my next DD (this will turn into a weekend/track car down the road), which I hope it to be a new M340i in late '18 or Spring '19. Did you inquire or have interests in EU delivery? This is very appealing to me

Again, congrats, great build spec! Hope you enjoy it for many years, to come!

Thank you sir. Funny you mention Audi. I almost pulled the trigger on an S5. Then realized the M240I was much cheaper, smaller and has better power/performance. So that was a no brainer. Plus the weight and engine sitting in front of the front axle of the S5 did not sit well with me. It is a beautiful car though.

You mentioned EU delivery. I have heard of this but never looked into it. Could you maybe expand on it?

I plan on having this car 10+ years.

Thanks again for the kind words. : )

Yea those Audi are great touring cars, but are far from "drivers cars", imo.

European delivery, I believe they bake a cost ($3k from what I recall?) into your purchase for travel to the BMW Welt factory, with tours and accommodations. Many guys here on 2addicts have done this, and can probably elaborate on the cost to travel, etc. I'm totally jealous, because it's a shot to get on not only the Autobahn, but the Nordschleife, and put the car to work, in it's "natural habitat" Not to mention all of the great tours, and the experience of traveling around Germany in your new car, prior to it being shipped across seas.

Congrats that's proving to be a popular color combination, at least on the forums. I personally go for more low key colors but that Sunset Orange is beautiful!

Very nice, hope the waiting time won't be too hard on you.
I still don't get it Au$ almost equal to Can$ yet huge difference in price.
Canada must have lower taxes & maybe the volume of left hand drive compared to right hand drive.
Getting a new car always exciting.

It was between Mineral Grey and Sunset orange. I am like you, I am usually pretty conservative with colours but change is good right. : )

Good for you man. It such a special feeling when you spec a car the way you want it. How long is your wait 12-14 weeks?

So i have been poking around these forums looking for the answer on whether to upgrade to the HK sound system or not. Have not found many posts. I do not want to do any after market upgrades to the stereo like speakers. Just want to get in and go so to speak. I like great sound but rarely turn the volume up high. Any opinions?

thx

Congratulations! What a Christmas present. Can't wait to see the car in person. I love the colour. Spring is a good time to get it too because you don't want to be driving it in all the Ottawa salt. It would drive you crazy having it dirty and not being able to go out and polish it up.
See you on the roads, i'll be the guy inn the mineral grey convertible giving you the thumbs up. I deal with Elite too.

European Delivery is very simple.
You order the car and pay for it.
You pick up the car at the BMW Welt at the Munich headquarters. The experience is great.
You get 2 weeks of European road insurance.
You get 5% off the base price.
You drop the car off at one of a number of designated spots.
You pick up the car at the dealer from which you purchased the car about a month later.
This is a great option if you plan to spend up to two weeks in Europe.
The program used to offer 7% and a month of road insurance.
Those were the days!

I have the HK. I am not a audiophile and the sound is fine for me and the wife. I crank it up more when she is not with me. No regrets. BTW, congrats on your new ride, love the color combo and your choice of options.

Actually they can not order it until the new year. I specified a delivery date of first week of May. Want to make sure all salt is off roads plus gives me time to sell my 2007 G35 coupe with 120,000 KM to some young kid that will pay gobbs of money for it so he can look cool in front of all his friends. Auto with all the options accept nav plus performance pack. What do you think I can get for it? Dealer offered me 5 ....... and I laughed..... : )

With your build, I'd suggest HK for sure. It IS worth it, imo, if you don't plan on upgrading.

I'm not a audiophile but there's a decent difference between the standard stereo and the HK stereo. I swapped out the rear speakers of my HK stereo for a $120 set of JL Audio C2-400x speakers and disconnected the front middle speaker. The sound quality is significantly better and it's easy work.

Ahhh brings back memories. I had an 05' G35 coupe 6MT Sport Pkg just like yours. It was Serengeti Sand with Graphite interior, 19" wheels and LSD. Let's just say that it was not the most reliable car I've owned (leased actually) but it was memorable. Should give you plenty of time to sell it.
