Production delays for all cars with Pro Nav?
Hi there,
Posted this in the UK section, but if the line I've been told by my agent is true it has wider impact. I called yesterday to see how things we going as my car was due for build in the middle of the month and I had hope to have it by the end or the beginning of June. My sales rep told me that the build date had disappeared from the system and that there was a delay on all cars that have been specified with Pro Nav, irrespective of Series and including Mini due to a component shortage I would imagine that that will be a pretty big impact if true and I haven't seen any other references to it. So it could just be a line, or it's only just happened... Or it's very close to the new model year so I wonder if this means that Pro Nav is being updated and they have run out of the previous version of components. Any one else heard anything similar?

Professional Navigation, I believe that's part of the Tech Pack in the US.
Basically the full on wide screen NBT Satellite Navigation.

My brother in law just ordered a 228 2 weeks ago and was just notified it's now at the dock in Bremerhaven, so perhaps some delay for Europe only perhaps?

Impressively quick!
I put my order in on the 8th of March... Perhaps when it rolls up it will be a M240i...

any news on this?
has there been any precedent for bmw giving you a "free upgrade" to the next model year if they stop building the current model year after you've ordered? |

Unknown.
I called my dealer yesterday to find out that the agent I had been dealing with had left at the weekend... So I got a call back from his manager. He's doing some digging to find out when "production of these cars will restart" and I may hear back on Thursday. Which suggests they've been pulled from the schedule, full stop. From a release management point of view, the most logical thing to do would be to hold back all cars until the new model year so that the cars being built have all the 2017 upgrades (new engine etc). Else you run the risk of a Frankenstein's monster build with mixed build years which would be more difficult to support in the future. Price wise in the UK the new M240i is actually £200 (~400 CDN) list *less* than the M235i... I suspect I won't get any more cash back...

I have an m235i on order from April 14th time which was supposed to be due to deliver for mid June. A few weeks after my order was placed the dealer mentioned the same delays with parts for the pro nav but could not give me any more info than that.
I today have received an email from my dealer letting me know that the delays are going to push forward my delivery until realistically end of August (at the earliest so that's still a projection) I'm now in a bit of a dilemma as I really wanted the car for summer so my options are either wait it out and miss the summer with the new car, downgrade to the business nav and get an early/late June delivery or cancel altogether. I am UK based so not sure whether this is a Europe only issue but from what has been said it seems like a worldwide thing. What are the main differences between the pro nav/standard nav does anyone know? |

Standard has a smaller screen which can only show 1 thing at a time.
I think it also has less of the connected items, like apps integration etc I can't remember what other things are missing as TBH I've only ever had pro on my two BMs. People do tend to look for it on the second hand market. The other thing as well to factor is that if your wait you will more likely get the M240i as deliveries for that are due to start in July.

AFAIK, there's no such thing as 'standard nav.' The choice is between 'pro nav' or 'no nav.' With 'no nav' (as I have in my car), you get a 6.5 inch LCD display with no navigation. With 'pro nav,' you get an 8.8 inch widescreen LCD with navigation. Also, the iDrive controller you get with 'pro nav' is bigger and has certain other features (e.g., touch input).

I tweeted BMW UK who have replied asking for my order ref and contact details.
Hopefully I'll hear back from then and/or my dealer tomorrow and find out what the skinny is.

Dealer came back saying that they have had to e-mail BMW UK to find out what is happening... So they should hear back in two working days... Hopefully.
At which point I may find out when my car is being built... He also confirmed that this affects all Series that have had Media Pack Professional (Tech pack to you chaps in the US and CDN.) so it a pretty major impact to BMW production. Considering the original estimated delivery was next Saturday (28th) this is a little bit shonky to say the least.

I received an update from my dealer earlier. They told me that all build slots are waiting until June as it is something to do with them upgrading the navigation parts to a newer version. They couldn't say anymore than that as that is just off a bulletin they received from BMW. Not sure whether this means the m240i will arrive instead but I have decided to wait it out and see what happens.

On the flip side, there's always a possibility that the 2017 configuration will actually be cheaper (e.g., when some option that you were ordering has been reclassified as standard equipment). If that's the case, you should definitely ask for an appropriate price reduction. Again, if they value your business, they would likely cooperate. |
