M2 lease vs m235i

I have a really stupid question my m235i was around 54,000 all said and done and it's a lease, but the base m2 manual is cheaper than that I believe. How is the monthly payment for the m2 almost 300$ more a month?

m2 is more than a m3/m4... This is not a lease vehicle.

Lease monthly payment is calculated off residual value set by BMW.

You're paying the depreciation.

BMW thinks M2 will have a lower residual value.

Let's put it this way. With M2 residuals being what they are right now. You could lease a M3 for less.

That, and they're not subsidizing the leases to move volume. Just did a lease for my father on a 3-wagon, 63% residual! No way the car is worth that in 3 years time, but they'll CPO it and double dip. 2 profit opportunities, one car. And their numbers look really good to the investor community.

Residuals are about 10% less than the M235
