Downpipe only
Is anyone here running only a downpipe? I'm interested only in getting an awesome exhaust sound, and not so much for performance. Not really interested in a tune and then having to get an aftermarket chargepipe either.
I recall an old post awhile ago of someone else that only got a downpipe for some better throttle response, but I cannot find it via search... Will there be any problems with air fuel mixture, etc, running only a downpipe? Would I have to get an aftermarket chargepipe anyways just in case? Thanks all |

You can run the downpipe only without a tune, you will just get a CEL on the dash. I think it might prevent you from going into sport or sport+ mode.
If you don't want to tune then I'd suggest getting the CANBus Module by BMS, that will clear the CEL from the DP among other features.

You can run downpipes on a stock car without any problems, only problem will be the the CEL light
Downpipe on its own will get you a better sound and a small bump in performance If you run JB4 with map 1 with the downpipes, you will not need a CP and it will take care of the CEL for you

Any sort of light indicating a malfunction locks you in comfort from what I've seen. Even when I had a low tire pressure light in the winter, I couldn't go into sport mode.

The module I linked you stays in the OBD port and will auto clear the CEL from the downpipe. You don't do it manually.

before I go bother BMS, can anyone here verify that the jb4 or canflap module only autoclears certain tuner codes like the downpipe CEL, and not other CEL's that could be serious?

wagner catted down pipe threw no codes so far.
Sounds is just a little above stock, but pair that with a muffler delete and it sounds very angry.

Running the Fabspeed catted downpipe (F30) and no CEL since installed 6 months ago. I'd say it sounds quite a bit more aggressive than stock, especially on cold starts.

If all you're going for is a bit more exhaust note why not just put the money into the BMW performance exhaust? You're pretty close to the cost when compared to a DP and canbus module.

Try a resonator delete. Super cheap and makes a slight difference. It may satisfy the craving for more sound, for now...

:| You said downpipe only......lol. Well then yeah, either get a louder exhaust or DP or resonator delete. All will help.

Our Sport Cat Downpipe is definitely something to check out! I ran it on my M235i as my only mod for awhile before betting the Muffler Bypass Exhaust. It was a great bump in performance and sound! The best part about it was no CEL! Check it out on our website here.
