My Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe

Hi all,

Good day. M235i owner from Taiwan.
This is my video after I install the Fabspeed Sport Cat downpipe.

I would like to share some experience with this downpipe.

Before I start, share some background of my car.
I have MP exhaust and areo kit, and these are the only mods I have.
No tuned computers.

First, the most important reason I pick up this downpipe.
NO CEL. Fabspeed did a great job on that. I had 2000+km with this downpipe now, and no CEL even once.

When we talk to the driving experience. I will make it 3 parts.

Eco Mode-
Compare to the oem downpipe, there is not much different.
Even with the Fabspeed, Eco mode still drive like a shit.
Its fairly ok when I am in the heavy traffic, but other than that eco mode is not working with me.

Comfort Mode-
Saying the truth, I feel a little bit torque lost between 800rpm to 1500rpm.
When I put down the gas, car did not respond as strong as before.
Most of the time driving is comfort mode, the car shift at 1500-2000rpm.
Which means, I did not feel as powerful as usual. But still doing okay. It did not mean the end of the world. Car still push you when you put down the gas.

Sport Mode-
Great feel. In sport mode, car usually hold at 2500rpm or higher.
The respond is great and feel faster than before.
If you are like 80% of the time is in the sport mode, this is for you.

Last part is sound.
You have a video clip. Lots of pops!

If you do want have some sound and not too much, this downpipe might be your best choice.
Compare to other brand like iPE or Arytrix, Fabspeed+MP exhaust just not as loud as they are. Its a totally different level, but I still like it.

Thanks for your review. I'm interested in going this route as well because I don't want to worry about a cell and don't really want to go catless. Appreciate the feedback and thinking this is definitely an option for me.

Good to know this article helped

Fabspeed did a great job with this Downpipe.
One more thing to tell you. It still has some bad smell outside the car. It's totally no problem inside the car, but after I park my car, I can smell something. Not strong anyways.

Thanks for your comments and videos. I am very interested in this downpipe as well, but a bit concerned about the perceived loss of performance in Comfort mode. I was wondering if you have conducted any timed runs, either on the dragstrip or perhaps timed 0-60 runs on the street to see what difference the downpipe actually made.
Thanks!

Thanks!
Taiwan, or I will say Taipei is a small place. I could not found a place to do 0-60 run even I wish to.

Yes, for more info to the comfort mode.

-So, the problem I feel is, most of the time we are in the heavy traffic.
We need to stop and go, stop and go. After I switch to the fabspeed downpipe.
I feel that when I put down the gas, the car is not giving a much as usual.
Guess there is no solution if only thing you want is a downpipe switch.

Comparing the throttle response between Sport Mode and Comfort is not a good way to judge power. Coming from my previous position as a BMW Genius I have learned that in Sport Mode the throttle response is increased, steering is tighter, gears are held out longer (if automatic), and the exhaust valve opens up. The car feels completely different when switching between these modes.

The way this downpipe is designed is the catalytic converter is freer flowing and closer to the turbo to allow for much faster spooling. In my experience when I did the downpipe on my personal M235i the turbo spooled a lot faster and it hit a lot harder overall. You shouldn't have any issues with poor low-end power.

I agree with you.
Compare the feeling between install before and after is not a good way to judge the power.

But, I guess that is also true you will losing something for exchanging a better middle range HP and Torque. Every downpipe maker should have facing this problem, not only fabspeed.

Once again, I am happy with my sport cat downpipe. Good job and great product, fabspeed! BTW, Bobby is providing good customer service! He helped me and ship the downpipe on time! Thanks Bobby
