Would be interesting to get a tri-turbo M2. I remember when there was a big rumore that the F8x M3/4 would be getting 3 turbos. Just a thought.

I hope all this "M2 talk" before the m235i is even out will make the people who work at BMW consider the demand for such a vehicle

The question that has been asked many times and answered is the issues with the A45 and CLA45 AMG and these have been acknowledged.
Do you not think that they will take their time to engineer and rectify?
After all it is not coming tomorrow.

Has BMW really made their final choice on that matter?

Friedrich Nitschke once said they have already an engine for the m2. He was pointing at an upgraded 1m engine.

This is the best line you're posted since the pre-1M days. This gives me hope that BMW can transition to the mass market like Porsche has. By not giving up on the hard-core enthusiasts who helped you get to where you are.

It's not the M2. But it shows the thinking of where they intend to really take this car and make it appeal to younger customers.
X1 M? I'm just going to try to ignore this. Unless it is so good that it would compete with the upcoming Macan.

And, what's the fascination w/ youth? I seem to recall that 1M drivers have plenty of 'old-farts' among us. Don't perpetuate age discrimination. Especially since the youth segment you so covet can't afford a single use-case $60k car in the first place!

Anyway - in general, I am very excited about your M2 comments. Make the thing aggressive, and put some real fender flares on it. And I'm sold.

Give it too much handling, too much power and too much fender flare, and you'll have a legend on your hands.

Is it just me or does the new 2 series look like the concept drawings for the old 1 series.

Reminds me of the E30 M3.. If they build this I might have to break the piggy bank to get this.

Looks like a concept of the M2 to me. Those E30 shaped fenders are beautiful!

IF the M2 is based off this M235 'racing' car then AND the M2 comes out of the box with those fenders then, we've just returned to the real M roots. M for motorsports, before M marketing.

For me it is a no-brainer to sell my 1M for an M2 inspired by and based on a actual race car, with idiotic boxed fenders. I might even tolerate a 4cyl so long as it pushes +400hp. It is not a no-brainer to sell my 1M for the new gen M3/M4.

If the M2 lives on like this - then we'll all owe Dr. Kai Segler a bottle of Pyrat. And the world will once again be in order.

Scott, roughly how long before we see actual pictures and performance specifications for the M235i Racer.

If BMW is considering an M2, it's well on it's way of development. We all know it takes years for them to develop a car.

Again, this will be stellar! I am SO praying this comes out for the street!

Come on BMW, get back to the basic rawness of what the M cars used to be. 4300lbs of M5 is NOT an M car IMHO. The new M3/4 is getting a bit closer now that they're back to an inline 6 and weigh closer to 3000lbs.

Make the M2 with 350hp and weigh close to 3000lbs - stripped out with options if we want creature comforts (similar to Porsche). If GM can do it with the Z28, why can't BMW?

I think the best drivers car BMW currenly makes is the Mini GP, but im sure M4 and M2 will be great.

Fast forward to 4:10. The Mini GP is pretty impressive.

Hope it has sunglasses headlights like the rendering. You could easily make them legal by having the external lens with LCD that switched off when the lights were on

Bring on the I4. Let's see some innovation...

I think it would be nice nod to the E30 M3, save a ton of weight (which seems to be in vogue at ///M) and be a great way to legitimize the N20 across the brand.

Agree- if aluminum and CF widely used, it'll also be a lot lighter than the m235i. Not the easiest way to speed, but certainly one of the most rewarding.

Lighter weight is obviously good and we should see reduction but the amount of weight reduction a 4 cylinder brings cannot offset the numerous positive attributes of a 6 cylinder with M enhancements combined! The M2 will be a track car but it will also live the majority of its life on the street. I hope that the 84% is being heard.
