Clean backup camera lens

My new-to-me 2019 230i has a backup camera. It works well, and I appreciate it being there. But the lens seems to be designed to collect dirt, which makes it useless.

Is there a baffle, or spoiler which could be fitted to change the airflow and keep it cleaner?

Great question.

This has been an extremely mild winter here, so we have not had the cold weather that helps keep the streets dry and the car clean. I've tried to make a point of just wiping the camera in my garage, along with the lights and plates on a regular basis, but I'd love to hear if there are better solutions.

My back-up camera got noticeably dirty the other day, the first time in years. I wiped it off with a tissue and it has been fine ever since. I live on Long Island, where we get only occasional snow these days. You may have to move south a bit.

Try coating the lens with Rain-X or similar.

I have far less problems with the camera getting dirty on my F23 than I do on our Jeep.

I keep a microfiber in the door pocket for this through the winter. A friend has a Golf and it has this pretty trick system where the camera is hidden in the emblem and hides away when not in use, keeping it clean during these horrid months. Not the end of the world but, I'd prefer if it werent part of my clearing off the snow routine.

I've already done the RainX-thing. I keep a cloth handy to wipe it.

The problem is, the time I want the camera is after I've driven the car and want to back into a parking slot. That's when it's too dirty to use. AFAICT, the device is pointless unless one lives in some locale where the roads are never wet

I'll try fitting a cone (like a camera lens hood), and see if that changes the shape of the wind enough to drop the dirt somewhere else.

Well, try pulling into your parking spot forward, then clean the camera so it's ready when you back out.

Easy solution to a first world problem. Lol.

I drove for 40 some years before I even had a back up camera and now sometimes I wonder if I'll remember how to back up without it.
