Ok, i really like the cayman but i have to drive to work every day comfortly, i have a child seat in the back, and a whole bunch of stuff in the trunk, and let's not talk about the price, Imho that makes for the second on the lap.

Losing to a Cayman is nothing to be ashamed of - the Cayman is a fantastic sport car praised unanimously and universally. Can you imagine if the M235i would have been considered a better track car? A cheaper 4 seats entry-level BMW coupe beating a Cayman? C'mon guys, we all love the M235i and I just can't wait to get mine but we just have to accept a Porsche Cayman is the better track car...

Looks like the Cayman S was just shy on all the performance numbers to the C7. But the road feel and driveability of the Porsche might make it a better track car. The GTS has more power, torque and larger size wheels and would only give better numbers overall. If you listen to the exhaust note of both GTS and C7 if would be hard to decide base on that alone. Yea, that was ridiculous. They test the manual because "it's more fun" as if that means anything. Maybe to me the AT is more fun because it's way faster and you can enjoy the other aspects of the car more? Manual transmission wankfests, gotta love it.

EDIT: Of course I know you can manually select the gear with an 8AT. So, you can attempt a fast lap in 3 different ways (transmission-wise): 8AT left in full auto, 8AT with manual selection and 6MT. Again, it's not clear to me which of those 3 is the fastest in the hands of amateurs and even pros. EDIT2: The fact that the 8AT is faster to 0-60mph might also be because of launch control. Without launch control, do we know for sure that the 8AT is faster than 6MT? Last edited by patbrass; 07-05-2014 at 11:38 AM.. |

The 8AT will be faster. Perhaps if you were Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher you could shift almost as fast; however, none of us are. No wonder BMW introduced this car to the media in Las Vegas all with 8AT. There was not even ONE manual available to sample.... The AT would have won against the base Cayman. And for those thinking the Cayman GTSFVCF, whatever, can beat the BASE Stingray, unlikely... cayman is out of league vs a 500+ HP car that can easily be moded to over 650hp with very few dollars. Wait a minute, let's get the new CAMARO and go destroy a few 911 Turbos at the track!

http://www.caranddriver.com/list-rev...nted-tests/bmw I've read in at least 1 US Mag that they achieved the best times without using launch control.

It was just a fun comparison between two German cars that offer performance oriented driving. I'm okay with M235i and the numbers all these different magazines and bloggers come up with. Bottom line, I know what my car is and isn't and that works for me. Really don't care if something more expensive is faster around a track or not. I drive on the public roads and too old and too smart to be stop light drag racing whatever pulls up along side.
