Should compare a Z4 to the Cayman. Not a M235i.

Nice video. Answers questions for those of us wondering how our M235i compares to the 25% more Cayman (as outfitted here). I think we got a bargain for performance and power. The Cayman is a very sexy sports car, but you will pay for it.
Depending on how low the price is for the 2016 Porsche 718/917 will be the determining factor between it and the 2016 M2. http://www.autobild.de/bilder/vorsch...386.html#bild1 Last edited by Delnari; 07-02-2014 at 06:43 PM.. |

Though I agree with you about how sexy a stripped down Boxster version like the 718 would be. Don't expect to be able to take one off the dealership floor for less than $50K. My friends in Germany are hearing the new 718 (leading call sign at this time) will come out in two forms; 718 S and the 718 Turbo. Keeping in line with the Macan launch names. Rumor pricing for the base cars are $46K and $58K, respectively. As with any Porsche, the al carte options will tack on another $8k - $15k with add-ons. What I think is cool about the new Porsche is the minimalist setup; true sports car that is about the driving and sound. With target weight of just over 2600 pounds for the S and 2750 pounds for the turbo you get a lot of performance. If BMW could match a M2 version in the same way it would be tough call for me.

I don't think it's a fair comparison because they should have used a M235i with the LSD and M Performance Suspension (which would still cost less than the base price of the Cayman).

Already gave 45 HP and 127 ft. lbs of torque! Add LSD and upgraded suspension then you would need to run it against the Cayman S. Worst result. At least the BMW has a better 0-60 time

One second difference on the track. Big whoop. Driver error could easily account for that.
I'm sure the Cayman is more fun though...at the track. Public roads, give me the M235i any day. |

This is the car I really wanted, but in the S trim. I just got out of the 2 seater and need the back seats but I just love the Cayman. it's just bountiful fun nonstop.
Looking forward to a Cayman S vs M2 review in the near future

This goes to show how good the M235i is and how people are regarding it! It's a f....ing great bargain sports car!!! To the point they're comparing it to the Caymans, A45 AMGs, etc, all much more expensive cars!
I mean, I would much rather have a cayman any day, but I need back seats. That being said, what other 4/5 seater can beat the M235i for similar money!?!? right.... S...t, can't wait for the day I put my hands on mine!!! |

No god damn way I'm picking a 270hp/220tq car over the M235i as an every day driver. The 2 is way faster on the public roads. Also, a base Cayman is $60k CAD. That's $15k more than a base M235i and will probably be more than a base M2, which will smoke this thing around a track and in the real world.
The M235i is competitive against cars that it shouldn't really be compared to. Porsche Caymans that are way more expensive. MB CLA45s which are slightly more expensive and are full on AMG cars. Kind of nice to know we have a solid all-arounder that can be compared to these more expensive, sportier cars. |

My BMW dealer sells Porsche next door and it was a choice between the two. I thought the 235 was a better car. Porsche has a great chassis in that a novice driver like me can feel the accelerator and brake shift the rear suspension around and utilize that on your drive but the BMW engine is so good. |

As a daily driver, the BMW should be better for most. But the Porsche is gorgeous and will make you feel like you're driving a proper sports car. The 2 series is not a sports car. It's a very capable sporty coupe (which is the same nomenclature given to other cars such as the Scion tC ) |
