8041B6 Headlight range control (LWR): System failed

Got this fault code along with an error in the multimedia: "Headlight vertical aim control failure".

Went to the dealer, they didn't even bother to connect a scanner, they just saw the message and said there's a sensor inside the headlight unit, hence why the whole unit has to be replaced. Sounds absurd to me, and doesn't make sense.

It's worth mentioning that I got the car a few months ago and after the error popped up, I noticed that the passenger's side cover in the wheel liner (where you can access the wiring loom/bulbs for the headlight) was missing. I immediately bought and installed a new one instead.

Anyone had this before, can this be fixed easily?

Hey there! Before you splash out on a new headlight unit, double-check all wiring connections, especially after replacing the missing cover. Give the sensor a good look, clean it if needed. Consider scanning for fault codes at another shop for a more detailed diagnosis. Sometimes, it's not as bad as it seems, and you might save yourself a hefty replacement cost. Good luck!

Yeah makes sense, I'm just not sure where that sensor is located.

I'd also check to see if the leveling sensors located on the front driver lower control arm wasn't disconnected or broken somehow. There is also another leveling sensor located in the passenger rear control arm as well.

Just throwing an update here, after finally getting a chance to put the car on a lift, I noticed that the harness that's going into the leveling sensor was cut. I believe it's because someone previously messed with that area and didn't properly secure the harness so the sensor itself cut it while going up and down.

I ordered a new sensor along with a piggyback harness.
