Comfort on cruising highways..No need to run high rev's on longer, high speed highway jaunts. I have no idea what this eco mode is people speak of...

21.5, 95% city 5% highway on summer tires (average over 8000 miles). Now that I'm on all seasons (DWS06) I expect it to go up.

I'm happy when my average mpg is reading over 20 mpg. It only happens if I mix some highway mileage in. When I'm averaging 24 mph in city driving, the fuel economy is about what the window sticker says, at best. I'm lucky to get 19, and that's babying it with minimal throttle and short-shifting for economy - basically shifting into the gear that's suggested on the Efficient Dynamics gauge.
My previous car, the 2005 Mustang GT had a window sticker that said 17/25. That was optimistic, though I did see 27 mpg highway on a 175 mile trip, strictly highway, 65-70 mph. So outliers happen. I owned that car for 10 years, and normally I would see 16-17 mpg city, and 24-25 highway. I'm seeing that the window sticker numbers for the M235i, 19/28, are also optimistic. Not impossible to meet, but I think they are under best conditions, and probably using the auto shut-off feature.

to this point after so many numbers shown, our 2 is not the car to buy to save gas, lol.
Thank god the gas is not as high as couple years back. now is actually okay to put gas and gun it a bit when driving. But i realized that our gas tank is actually pretty small, 35 dollar would full up full instead my IS350 would take up to $45 or $50 depends on gas price. also i go to gas station more after i get the M235i. |

I get between 23-24 driving around town, which is most of my driving. When I do go on trips its between 34-36 on the highway. The lower number in the mountains the higher number on flat land.

Just got my brand new 228i Coupe, manual transmission about 4 days ago. At 265 miles and I got my first fuel reserve warning just now. Computer is registering 23MPG. I know during the 1200 mile break-in period the gas mileage is pretty bad. Looking forward to getting past the break-in period and raising the RPM's a little.

8000 miles on the car. Average 23 mpg 50/50 city highway comfort and sport around town and Eco on highway or long trips with the 8 speed auto. Haven't seen it go over 25 yet
Not as good as my 335 I was getting 30 on highways |

I generally get to 350+ miles before I get to the 50 mile warning. Since I put approximately 10.2 gallons in every time I'm getting between 35 and 40 mpg on average.

Due to the twin turbos, my mixed driving results in roughly 25-26 mpg on my 228i. I say we start a lawsuit against bmw for false mpg claims. Their combined rating is 28 and with my ultra conservative driving I have yet to hit those numbers.

Not too bad in San Diego
Hi- M235i with 15,000 miles now. Daily commute is from downtown San Diego traffic then freeway about 10 miles.
- Daily commute- usually in comfort mode, sport mode occasionally when accelerating from onramps, get around 22-24 mpg average. - Long trip (e.g. I-5 to LA), in comfort mode, with no traffic, no real reason for Sport mode, get around 30 mpg. Worse I've gotten is 21 mpg- driving hard in Sport. Amazing to me is that my wife's 2009 base E90 gets the same mileage with 50% less horsepower. I'm impressed at how this engine, with all it's power and torque, gets such great mileage. |
