I gather Audis quattro is a performance tool vs xdrive which is more of an inclement weather aid. Don't see a lot of Xdrives competing with quattro in SCCA etc. Audi is 40% front and 60% rear . You can do donuts in and a4/s4/a5/s5 on snow..

Seriously go drive a BMW xDrive car with traction fully off... you are a bit off on your technical details of xDrive, just so you know!

IF the Audi S or RS has an active rear diff, great... If not, forget about it !

I have and Audi and can spin it all day long. Xdrive IS a reactive system. Is there a new version of xdrive? I havent driven xdrive with everything off. Not sure why anyone would actually. I drove it in 2010 when I got my e92. Didnt like xdrive.

It's mechanical yes. Turning stability half off, when the traction is poor is when you can feel it perform best.

Snow is one reason I turn it fully off. Gives you abilities you cannot have with stability on.

I didnt get xdrive because of higher and softer suspension but might think about it next time for traction purposes......really annoying when traction control kicks in while entering traffic quickly in summer. Almost rear ended many times as car just stops.
Picking-up my 235xi tomorrow - Blizzak LM 60's are on their way too! This summer I'll put on some good non-run flat sport tires for the warmer weather...

The 2 series xdrive sits higher off the ground versus RWD? I didn't think there was a difference.

SWEET! Can't wait to hear what you think. Small car big engine lots of traction. Perfect combo.

Not sure about 2. 3 series drive sled us say higher on soft suspension. Never understood that considering the competition.

This is not the case with the M235xi..It does not sit higher or have softer suspension. Its been discussed already in this thread and many others on this forum and M2 as well.

That indeed was the case with older 3 series and may still be the case with the 3 and 4. So I can understand the confusion.

It is still the case on the 2015 3 and 4 series. It is easy to pick out which models are RWD only and those with xDrive. Happily, the 2 series does not suffer this problem

And I will be waiting patiently for your impressions after a week or two...and then again in the good weather. This car and the C450 are on my list of only 3, just waiting for some proper specs on the C after it's intro next week. If it don't make the cut I might be following in your footsteps sooner than later. Have fun!!!

I look forward to trying that. Car mag says they like xdrive in the snow more than Quattro. Torque is actually transferred by clutch pack electronically, not mechanically.

W205 was high on my list - top 2 as a matter of fact. It finished second obviously

I wanted a manual so it had to be RWD for me. I probably would have got xdrive had it been available with a manual.

I'm with you. I guess their MT business is really dropping off. B9 S5 for me.
