Trunk Popping Open
This morning when I backed out, I had no rear cam because it had decided the trunk was unlatched. And it was. So I got out in the rain and latched it.
By the time I got to the coffee shop, went to back up to the line and again it was unlatched. Since the fob is in my right hand pants pocket, I don't think I could have pressed it. Clearly the most obvious answer is that I'm pressing the fob but I don't think so. Doesn't look like I can code such that the fob won't do the trunk at all, though. Grr |

I assume you have both keys with you? I ask this as I recall when we were conducting a product clinic, one of the car's trunks kept popping open while sitting in the convention center showroom. At first, we couldn't make sense of this, so we called back to the contact for that company who directed us to search the trunk. As a new car rented for our clinic, the dealer had the owners manual/second key packed together, and to clean up the interior/for security, we put the package in the trunk. The car sensed the key in the trunk and kept popping open the decklid to prevent the key from being locked in the trunk! Before we figured that out, we stood there and watched in surprise as each time we closed the lid, a few moments later, it would pop open again!

One key is at home, one in my pocket. Jeans are not skinny, nor even jeans.
Most peculiar ... I'd definitely sacrifice key fob trunk opening, but I'm not convinced the latch just isn't loose. |

Maybe this is mainly an old guy problem, since you and I seem most concerned about it.
I solved the problem by buying a Fobguard on Amazon. The BMW fob fits in it easily, and it closes with Velcro. the Fobguard adds virtually no weight or bulk. Once the fob is inside the Fobguard, its signal is blocked, and so it cannot open the trunk or anything else. Using the Fobguard involves some inconvenience. I have to take it out of my pocket and remove the fob when I want to lock or unlock the car, start the engine, whatever. But it is great not having the fob open the trunk when I am in the car or open the windows when I am in the vicinity of the car. |

If I don't close my trunk with purpose, it doesn't turn off the sensor and I have this problem. My issue has nothing to do with the fob, but dealer can't replicate to their satisfaction, so I just have to close it hard every time. Weird.

If it's caused by your key fob, look into getting a key fob case. I have the M Performance one and the standard one and find the latter to be easier to use as the fob slides out easier than the MP version which "sticks" to the fob due to the lining inside.
For those with trunks that require a harder close, could it possibly be fixed by adjusting the sensor (wherever it is) or maybe adjusting the trunk so the posterior end sits slightly lower? |

I think I paid extra for comfort access, seems wrong to have to whip out my fob every time I want to take a ride ...

My issue was not the trunk monkey nor the key fob. Twice recently the backup camera would not work and the dash indicated open trunk (the car had been sitting in the garage overnight). The second time I took a picture and showed it to the dealer: my car has been in service for two days now: two different parts have been ordered.

every time mine has shown open trunk, I try to lift it from other than the switch in center, and it opens. that is, it's really open, in my case.

I too would be interested to hear from Rolf14 what your dealer found out and how it was fixed.
