Would this influence your decision to buy a Genesis?

I saw this driving down the #2 highway North of Calgary, Canada the other day. Would this get you to part ways with your BMW?

They may be making vastly improved vehicles compared to their history, but this is clearly a status marketing appeal for those more concerned with external appearances than the performance of the vehicle inside. "Imagine when the neighbors see this!"

I have to admit, it made me look twice.

Uh, no.

I've had both generations of Genesis sedans as rentals, and all I can say about them is that they seem like a luxury car until a real luxury car rolls up.

A car that will impress a Camry driver, not a BMW/Mercedes driver.

They could deliver it with busload of hookers and blow and I still would not be even slightly interested, but at least this way you needn't have the skeevy experience of visiting a Hyundai dealership.

Cool that they offer this but I pay for engineering not convenience.

At first I thought it was a new Aston-Martin being delivered as their emblems are similar, so I was a little disappointed to see it was just a Genesis when I caught up. I do give kudos to Hyundai for getting so far so fast, but I wouldn't consider one either. I was stuck with a Sonata rental last year, I know not quite the same as a Genesis but still the same company, and it was not great. I found it uncomfortable, the handling was sub par, poor materials, and noisy, but like I say it was a rental so who knows how much it was beat on.

I couldn’t care less how the car gets there as long as it arrives without any damage. This has no bearing on how the car will perform when I’m behind the wheel so why would I care?

You wouldn't, because you are not the low self-esteem, status-hungry buyers who want to show off in front of the neighbors and whom they are targeting! And, I'm right there with you!

The deliver to my home in a glass box, gimmick..., part ways of current BMW for the sedan, no way....

Now, for the upcoming 2018/2019 Coupe.... that will depend on the performance and driving experience of the proposed twin-turbocharged V6. The 2016 Genesis coupe 3.8 R was on my short list back in late 2015 before I pulled the trigger on a Mustang GT. I would be interested to see what they come up with this time around.

Don't think the "at home" customer service gimmick will last long, especially here in the US. But if they can pull it off, would be interesting to see how other high-end brands respond.

Ummm, no.
It may arrive in a glass carriage, but it doesn't change the contents.

The opposite in fact. I'm not buying a car for how it appears to others.

I'd rather buy something that makes me smile every day as opposed to one day. The cost for this ultimately comes from the purchase price.

Its unfortunate that people still view the genesis as the old hyundais from years ago. I guess Genesis just needs a bit more time with the general public. I currently own the genesis as my daily car and f22 for weekends and its working very well for me. Being stuck in traffic and going through pothole city with the f22 is painful. I wouldn't replace a bmw for a genesis but its great to own both.

Having recently test-driven a new Kia Stinger from the same parent company, I (and seemingly unanimous journalists) can attest to the leap-frog improvement in their vehicles, with ex-top design and engineering people on board from Audi and BMW, respectively. It was a very, very close 2nd place to the 330 GT which I did get. But, the marketing Genesis is using to create false status is not serving them well in this case.

I want a car that I love to drive so much that any time away from it, or others driving it, is unbearable.
If the car is that amazing, I want to be driving it, not waiting for a dog a pony show.

Maybe I'm a bit biased with the recent vibe around Philly w the Super Bowl win, but I think they'd have better luck as the scrappy underdog trying to knock off the big boys. Even lacking an outright win vs an M3 for example you can still have the impressive performance for the price, worthy of respect and consideration in that context.

Next up - why hasn't Chevy dumped a half ton of bricks into my truck bed like they did on the ad? And where the hell are all the euro looking supermodels and that racing contract, now that I got the BMW? I'm starting to think all that video stuff is just fake crap to get us to buy their cars....
