Don’t tell me that. But, ah, the top does not go down.

Let's keep it on topic from this point so the mods don't move OP's thread!
That annoys me. When I ordered mine last January there no cash incentives.

I could have easily bought one of the many M235s they had sitting on the lot for a 12% discount with incentives but they were all auto and xdrives, wrong options, etc. I knew the M2 was coming out a few months after my M235 arrived, but I knew they'd be going for a lot more ($65-70K was the norm for an M2 in the summer of 2016).

I spent about $47K on my M235. When it's all said and done, I'll end up putting about $5K into it for wheels, tune, LSD, MP exhaust, MP wing, and MP splitter. The car does have an elegant and sporty presence which I do love. With LSD, tune, and perhaps the new MP4S tires, it will perform extremely close to that of an M2, but what I will have spent does put it very close to the M2 base MSRP. However, even now, it's damn hard to find an M2 6MT under $58-60K. I do love the M2 and I'd likely buy one if I totaled my M235. It's pricey but I think it's worth it if you can grab one for near MSRP especially if you're looking at an M240 for similar money.
I only managed around 5.5% off. Sticker was $50,430 and I got it for $47,670

It will be. We're probably looking at another year or two before the DME is cracked, but I plan on keeping my car till spring 2023, so hopefully a flash tune will coincide with the end of my factory warranty (doing ~17k a year, so spring 2020 I'll be at 50k). Just gonna install meth for now.

So a little over $40K is a pretty steep discount, over 15%. Do you know somebody or do you know something that the dealer does not want the rest of the world to know? Golden showers, maybe . . .
Here in the UK there are massive discounts to be had, I negotiated 12.8% plus a free service pack, and then a further Ł2,500 for taking finance which I cleared within 7 days, overall It worked out around 20% off my build price including the incentives.
If you get a great deal the M240i is the bargain of the century.

agreed. I had E46M also.

I drove a perfect condition E46M and my M2 back to back recently. After all these years of missing and regretting E46M, I do not miss E46M at all after that drive.

I originally wanted an M2 but my dealer didnt have one.

I drove the m240i and loved it. Put the M2 performance exhaust on it and love the sound.

I can also put a Dinan Stage 1 tune on it, keep the factory warranty, and bump the HP to over 400HP.

Plus even with the exhaust my m240i only cost 46k after discounts.

I'm happy.

My salesman said as a daily driver I would be happier with the m240i over the M2 anyways.
M2 is a better track toy.

What he said.^^^^^

I don't see BWM ever doing a convertible M2, but an M4 with a drop top, now that sounds intriguing, especially considering the next 4 Series will likely come with a soft top, more power and few less lbs. It may still be too big, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Are there many places where you can track a convertible? Big $$$ for relatively small bump in street performance.

No, probably not. Agree an M4 vert would be pricey, but many folks spend much bigger money on high performance cars which will never see even a second of track time or even high speed street time. How many Porsche's, Ferarri's, Jaguars, etc., etc. see track time? For that matter, I'd venture to say of all the various "M" cars sold, less than 25% see any track time. As much as I'd love a true "M" car or a Boxster S or 911, I have no interest in driving it on the track and at 56, I am no street racer either. One can always dream of driving something special, even if just to dinner with the wife.

My Dealer is the same. When M2 first came out and others were charging $5K over sticker (and were pretty arrogant about it), my dealer charged "sticker", which, for a new very desirable model, was fair IMO.

A cars salesman would say anything to sell you a car on the lot.

Ahhh, maybe because that is there job?

And please don’t tell me you never “expanded on the truth”, everyone does it to some level, it’s just others do it with more precision.

And BTW, in the previous thread where the salesman said the M240i is a better “daily driver” than an M2, he is 100% absolutely correct.

Thanks for the tip

I know that, I am not a kid. Don't think I did not go do my own research, LOL.

There are plenty of articles, reviews, and posts talking about direct comparisons between the M2 and M240i.

I drove an M2 when they launched and thought it was good but I just revisited and drove one again... it is absolutely superior to my M235i. If I didn't have another 5 months on my lease I'd be moving forward to M2 now but will try to time an order for the summer.

The M240i has the power to make it a sporty car but lacks in certain areas while the M2 is a sports car with the whole package, if you want something a little more serious. However, the M2 is now a $60k car at MSRP if you're going DCT.

In the USA, it's an easy choice. In Canada, there is a legit $20K difference with respective builds. It is in another league of cost.

What's better? That's up to only the end user.. Don't let someone else's convictions weigh in on your decision for a cost-effective purchase. More = Less in a lot of scenerio's, likes this.

I paid about 53K CAD for my 2018 M240i:

xDrive
Premium Pack with all the bells and whistles
M Perf Exhaust

53K CAD += ~41K USD

That’s crazy. I know 2 guys here in the Toronto area that picked up 2017 M2’s, one $61,900 and the other $63,000, both with under 3000kms.

I can’t believe there’s a wait list out your way. Dude fly here, they’re all over but of course that will change one mid April and May hits when it’s impulse time lol

I paid about 11% below MSRP (w/incentives) on a special-order '18 M240i purchase. No haggling necessary, even. A fantastic dealer experience all around.

How can one argue that one is more "M" worthy than the other? In my eyes, neither one truly deserves the M badge, so when I was making the decision to go m240i vs. M2, I did my best to look past the "M" marketing bs all together and made my decision based on what the cars offered at their respective price points. I ended up with a lightly-optioned (metallic paint and Dakota leather are all I configured) m240i 6MT for a little over $40k. No regrets. That said, if BMW did something like a M2 CSL w/ S58, half cage + sport buckets, carbon roof, etc. and kept it around $70-75k, I'd trade up in a heartbeat. I'm simply not interested in a S55-powered M2 Competition. They can keep that one and I'll keep my money while I continue to enjoy the m240i for what it is.
Sage advice, If it works for you who cares about the M persona. I own a 228ix which suits me fine.
