Open Trunk without Fob

Hi,

My wife's 328 lets you open the trunk from the outside without the fob if the car is unlocked. Neither my old m235 and my 2018 m240 seem to allow this (although I could have sworn a loaner m240 we recently got did.)

Is there a setting for this somewhere I am failing to find?

first make sure the trunk lock-out switch in the passenger side glove box is switched to un-lock -not sure if that even effects your issue, but worth checking first,

It's in the unlock position. If I put it in the lock position, it locks out the fob entirely.

Have you gone to iDrive to SETTINGS then to DOORS & TRUNK or DOORS & WINDOWS - whatever it says and tried the two settings

Mine needs 2 clicks of the 'unlock' on the fob and then the handle opens trunk, otherwise it is locked. I think that after I open it from the cabin switch, it is also unlocked for the handle.

Mine will open from handle whether or not the doors are locked.

Bingo!

It's under Vehicle Settings/Doors and Key/tailgate. If you set it to "Tailgate and Doors", then anytime the car is unlocked you can open the trunk with no fob. I had assumed that it just meant that if I unlocked the trunk with the fob button, it would also unlock the doors. But it appears to do both.

That works but only when the passenger door is unlocked as well as the driver's door. Any thoughts about how to fix this aspect of it? Thanks.

My M240i opens from the handle even with car locked. There's a rubbery bit right in the middle that one presses.

I'm still thinking about finding a way to turn off the fob opening it since I seem to trigger it accidentally more often than on purpose.

That's also under "Vehicle Settings/Doors and Key/tailgate" I believe. You can set it to unlock both doors or just the driver door.

When you say it opens from the handle with the doors locked, do you mean with the fob present? If so, that's normal operation. If it did that without the fob present, I would be concerned.

Yes of course, with the fob in my pocket.
