BMW M2 or Mercedes CLA45 AMG
The new CLA45 is getting a lot of press lately, and I know that the M2 isn't slated for debut until 2014/2015, but looking a couple of years in the future... which car would you pick if you were in the market?
I love what I've seen from the Merc, but I can't wait to see this new BMW. One of these cars will probably be my next car, unless I pony up for something like a Porsche BoxsterS or an M4/C63...

IMO a CLA45 will be a downgrade from your current car, haven't seen the M2 obviously but I can probably guess the same thing.
If you're worried about $$ then I'd just jump into the new 335i M-Sport in a couple of years, the LCI will probably be out and it is a sick looking car. |

While I'd rather wait to see the CLA irl, I don't think it's a good looking car at all to be honest. The profile just isn't all that sexy to me.
The M235i on the other hand, looks amazing even with camo on! Can't imagine what the M2 would look like. This car definitely has my interest!

I actually kinda like the looks of the CLA (i've always loved the CLS type body style, and Merc does it the best imo!)
But, I'm not so sure about that 4 cyl, even if it puts out 350/335 hp/lbft and hits 60 in 4.5 seconds. Price wise, I feel like loaded, both cars will run similar to a 335is... but with more power and better specs. Plus, they will still be the performance divisions - AMG/M ... I love my 335is, and I know that it can be made faster than an M3 (and I also think it sounds better than an M3 stock), but it just isn't an M car, no matter how many ///M badges and 'IS' badges are on the car.

I saw an A45 on the street in Rome last week and while I liked the look of it, the sound wasn't there.

Correct, but awd with Haldex, not "real" awd. An interview with AMG's head even mentioned that the most it can send to the back, once slip is detected is 60%, or the same as an xDrive or 4Matic car would be sending to the back just rolling along, with no slip.

Same story as the A3/S3 which is the step child of the quattro family because of the transverse engine, which as in the MB, requires Haldex, not the conventional awd setup that allows a more rearward power bias and the Sport Diff, etc.

M2 F22 a downgrade from a 335is E92? In which way? Less rear leg room? In this case I agree. |

None. I would buy a Alfa Romeo 4C, and probably will At least, Alfa is trying to bring some novelty to the market unlike typical German rivalry keeping an eye on each other's statistics. I guarantee you that next M2 will precisely have 360 ps just like the next Audi RS3, identical to 45 AMG models; just new suits to old toys. I better keep the 1M instead, or like I said go for a novelty, like the 4C.

the M2 will be rear wheel drive. this is unquestionably going to dominate the cla45 as far as driving feel goes, and that's what matters when you're behind the wheel.
